Kannada cine star Vadiraj is no more

Vadiraj (77) died here on 6th February 2004 following a heart attack.
A bachelor, Vadiraj had served the Kannada film industry for more than 40 years in different roles. He had also acted in some Tamil movies. Family sources told that he had been admitted to a local hospital with heart problem ten days ago. He was on the road to recovery before death snatched him. 
Some of his popular movies included "Namma Makkalu", "Nanda Deepa", "Seetha", "Nammammana Sose", "Premakku Permitte", "Seetheyalla Savithri" and "Aade Kannu" (in which matinee idol Rajkumar had acted). His children's film "Dangeyedda Makkalu" made in 1979 had won the "Swarna Kamal" award. His films Namma Makkalu had also won the national film award. He had also produced a film Nandi in which he had highlighted the travails of deaf and dumb people. It was the first Kannada film to be shown in some international festivals. His sister Harini was also a popular yesteryear actress. His father Srinivasa Upadhyaya was an eminent stage artiste and through him only Vadiraj had entered the cine field in 1958. He had produced films along with his brother
