About Bagalkot

CM Krishna ignores the havoc caused by river Krishna in Bagalkot and it is the people of Bagalkot and the poor villagers of nearby 150 villages who suffer a lot.

Almatti Dam which is mainstay of Krishna river project has backwaters which submerged 150 villages and a major portion of the town of Bagalkot.

S.M.Krishna: Chielf Minister of Karnataka

It is not just shifting of people or cattle ( both are treated with same contempt by the officials) but it is loss of heritage and culture that is to be considered as well.

Can you imagine staying in Bagalkot, where according to the officials the submerged area is up to 521 meters as per their records. So you find that water is there just across the road from your house and it brings along mosquitoes, flies and insects in plenty and also water will seep into foundations of your house and begin to weaken it. The same water has flooded your well and clogged the sanitary system and town water supply is not working anymore and electricity exists for few fortunate ones!!

Still officials claim that since water has not reached your house, you are not liable for any compensation and you can continue to live there!!

This is not just the case of one house or one locality but thousands of households upto a area of 525 meters are living in horrible conditions.

What is it for the people who left behind their house and property and shifted to the camps at New township?? It is real hell for them as well, since the officials have generously allocated one tin roof shed for 3 to 4 families!!

There is electricity for fortunate few and others are in stone age era - no matter how old or sick one can be!!

Thousands of Crores of rupees are being spent on this project and in particular to rehabilitate the people of 150 villages and partially the people of Bagalkot city but one look at the so called new township exposes the lies told by the officials.

CM Krishna ignores Krishna and while he had time to go all the way to Mantralaya, neither he or his jumbo ministry ministers have thought of visiting Bagalkot!!

This is simply not fair CM Sir.

More About Bagalkot:

Bagalkot has nearly a lakh of population and all of them are practically cut off from the state of Karnataka. Be it the state highway like Belgaum-Raichur highway or the link roads to other cities - all are submerged in water. ( A long detour through the new city called Navanagar is the only the link with the mainland).

By sunset all the shops in both the new and old Bagalkot cities are closed. Electricity and Safety are privilege of a few lucky ones!!

If you are living anywhere near the submerged areas, then you are the target of snakes, reptiles and insects. (There is a terror of an insect called Dvami locally, which is nearly a inch thick and comes in hundreds and like a mosquito bites and sucks blood from human beings and cattle!!) There are several cases of water borne diseases and even doctors are puzzled to find cases with hitherto unheard ailments coming to them.
