Green
House effects and Global Warming are International
issues, which have drawn the serious attention
of not just the developed countries, but the
developing countries too. The governments
world over have undertaken a commitment to
control these issues and India is signatory
to this, as under the obligation we have to
meet certain requirements.
With India truly going ahead in its efforts
to control global warming and production of
Green House gases, there will definitely have
to be a strict compliance to certain regulations
by the Industries too. In this background,
the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII),
Mysore Zone, is organizing an environment
summit CARE - 2007 (Care for Air Resources
Conservation and Mother Earth) at Hotel Regalis,
which was inaugurated on 21st of September
2007 morning.

V.
T. Avadhany, Director of Supreme Pharmaceuticals
and also the Convenor of this summit, speaks
to Star of Mysore Correspondent about the
necessity of such a seminar and how it is
going to be beneficial to the industrialists.
How
relevant is such a summit at this point of
a time?
As everyone is aware, the threat of global
warming, climatic changes, and emission of
green house gases are a major cause for concern
today. The threat looms large, but it also
throws open opportunities for industries to
cash in on incentives being made available
to them, for becoming more energy conscious
and taking the initiative in reducing their
energy requirement. This summit is mainly
to create awareness amongst the industries
about all these issues and also help to see
the future challenges and how to combat them.
What are the challenges the industries will
face?
Like I said, India is a signatory to the undertaking
and will have to comply with certain regulations
in this regard. Once the regulations come
to force, the industries will have to comply
with it very strictly. This summit will help
prepare them for the same.
How
much have the industries in Mysore contributed
to global warming or green house gases production?
The industries in Mysore actually don’t
contribute much, as there are not many chemical,
process or pharmaceutical industries. But
energy conservation being a global requirement,
all the industries should take steps to bring
down their energy requirement.
What
are the incentives being offered?
Industries are given Carbon Credits. Carbon
Credits are points earned by any institution,
which has been certified by CMD program for
conservation of environment. These incentives
act as investment to go in for higher investments
in energy efficient methods. The summit will
give the industries ideas on how to get these
carbon credits, how to become more energy
efficient and also reduce their energy requirements.
Will
the Small Industries also benefit?
Definitely. Generally the notion is that all
these things are only for large industries.
But the medium and small industries too can
contribute in decreasing global warming. Speakers
from SIDBI will highlight the participants
about this factor.
