Putting
an end to three days of suspense and speculations,
Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa today,
i. e. on 31st of July sent his resignation
by fax to BJP President Nitin Gadkari at
7.42 am.
He
also expressed his "full support"
to the party.
In
the letter, Yeddyurappa has cited astrological
issues as the main cause, according o sources
close to him.
He
will be meeting Governor Hans Raj Bhardwaj
at 2.30 pm to formally submit his resignation.
Yeddyurappa's
successor is likely to be announced in the
evening after the party legislature meeting
called by State BJP President K. S. Eshwarappa,
where the names of the new Chief Minister
and Deputy Chief Minister will be finalised.
At present, it is rumoured that Udupi -
Chikmagalur MP D.V. Sadananda Gowda will
be the new Chief Minister while Rural Development
and Panchayath Raj Minister Jagadish Shettar
will be the Deputy Chief Minister.
The
meeting earlier scheduled for 3 pm, was
postponed to 4 pm in view of the rival faction's
demand that the name of the new CM be announced
only after Yeddyurappa officially tenders
his resignation to the Governor.
It
may be mentioned here that Yeddyurappa had
been opposing the appointment of BJP General
Secretary Ananth Kumar and his Cabinet colleague
Jagadish Shettar, also from the Lingayat
community, for the Chief Minister's post.
The
High Command is learnt to have granted one
of his conditions by nodding approval for
Sadananda Gowda as the new Chief Minister.
Cool
and relaxed:
Yeddyurappa appeared to be in a cool and
relaxed mood this morning as he arrived
at the Palace premises to attend a convention
organised by Balija community to honour
him and express gratitude for the recent
inclusion of the community under Sub - Category
2A of Backward Classes (to avail reservation
benefits). Earlier, it was categorised under
3A. Over one lakh people attended the convention.
After
the five days' silence following his indiction
in Lokayukta's report on illegal mining
and the tussle with the High Command that
demanded his resignation, Yeddyurappa, for
a change, seemed to be relieved of a huge
burden.
Former
Union Minister and BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu,
Bangalore Central MP P. C. Mohan and others
were present at the function. Earlier, Yeddyurappa
began his day by offering puja at Lakshmi
temple in Jayanagar at 7.30 am today.
Later,
it was decided that the New CM is likely
to be announced on 3rd of August 2011.
