So what is new in the final Report of the Lokayukta? Most of it, in fact the parts that have found the Chief Minister and others from BJP, JD (S) and Congress guilty of one or the other offences — under the Karnataka Prevention of Corruption Act, Mines Act, IPC and the Forest Act — were already known when the interim report was filed. Now it has only been confirmed, indicting these persons.
One question that should be resolved first is whether the demand for Yeddyurappa's resignation emanates from the ethical issue or legal issue regarding the conduct of Yeddyurappa named in the report.
If it is the ethical issue that is troubling the BJP High Command and the opposition, then Yeddyurappa MUST forthwith resign and go home to either brood or brave the next election or charter his own new course in politics.

However, if it is the legal issue from which Yeddyurappa's resignation or sacking is emanating, then the BJP High Command may as well hold its fire and allow the law to take its course. If in the course of legal battle he falls, he falls as per the law of the land. The fact that he is adamant not to quit, clearly indicates that the report as it is has many legal infirmities, as an advocate friend of mine said.
It is a strange logic of some news media that Yeddyurappa must be turned into a sacrificial goat at the altar of moral high ground of BJP at the Centre which wants to fight the UPA in the ensuing winter session of the Parliament beginning from Aug. 1 on the issue of corruption in 2G spectrum scam. This is topsy - turvy logic.
One need not prove credentials of honesty for fighting corruption. In politics we know, as in public bath, "Hamam me sab log nange hain." 2G - spectrum is different from Yeddyurappa making a pile of Rs. 10 crore by unethical (not illegal) means or winking at illegal mining. After all, the report has many distinguished names from all the political parties and it is possible some big fishes could not fit into the Lokayukta net for their sheer size and weight. And then does the BJP High Command believe that if Yeddyurappa is sacked or made to quit here, the UPA at the Centre will also sack some Ministers or force them to quit? It is irrational for the BJP High Command to think it can derive moral strength to fight the UPA by subjecting itself to a “virginity test” in Karnataka.
In any case, should the BJP High Command decide that Yeddyurappa should go [it is now reported the High Command has already asked him to go], then it should allow him to go with dignity and good grace. Either allow him to choose his successor or if he so chooses, or allow him to dissolve the Assembly. As for the court cases, civil or criminal, he will take care of it. After all, he was the man who could get the first BJP government in the South against all odds and personal humiliation. He was betrayed. And when he bounced back as Chief Minister on 30th May 2008, it was a miracle. Soon in October 2009, he was under a revolt from the Bellary Reddy brothers. Even as he recovered from this revolt that almost threatened his CM's gaddi, poaching of his 17 MLAs by Congress and JD (S) brought him face to face with a new crisis with a hostile Governor arrayed against him. It was an ordeal by fire for him and he survived only to be once again troubled by the Supreme Court's decision in favour of the 17 BJP MLAs and the Governor gunning for him. It has been a turbulent three years for the man who brought BJP to South India.
And now look at the way the BJP High Command is treating him. Could they not have waited till the Report is perused, at least? The Report comes last evening and he is sacked this morning. A case of vulgar haste to appease UPA or to wear the badge of morality on the sleeve to take on the UPA in the Parliament.
I remember the price paid by Indira Congress when it sacked its own Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Anjaneyalu, paving way for NTR of Telugu Desam and here in Karnataka when it sacked Veerendra Patil to install Bangarappa and the price paid by Congress as a result. H.D. Deve Gowda of Janata Dal became the CM. Those who refuse to learn from the past mistakes are bound to perish repeating them.
And finally, what the stars foretell for Yeddyurappa?
According to the famous Kodi Mutt Seer, Yeddyurappa will go. But he has been saying this since three years, whenever there was a crisis. Who knows this time he may be right. Let us ask another astrologer whether what Kodi Mutt Seer has predicted will come true or not?
