The victorious Congress party's candidate Siddharamaiah has said "I did not expect the competition to be so close."

Many factors such as the voting on caste basis, bigwigs, including the former Prime Minister, the Chief Minister, the State cabinet in full strength camping in the city, misuse of power, lavish spending for the poll, and caste-based campaigning may be the cause for the stiff competition, Siddharamaiah opined, while speaking to press persons yesterday.

"The by - poll was not based on any ideology. It was influenced by money and caste. In that backdrop, the Election Commission should take action against those who committed such irregularities. I will also draw the attention of AICC President Sonia Gandhi towards these issues. Because of strict adherence to election code, irregularities of a large dimension were avoided. We must be thankful to the Election Commission", Siddharamaiah observed.

"Apart from all other issues, I profusely thank all the voters for their blessings on me. I owe my victory to them," he added.

JD (S) will split:
MLA Siddharamaiah, re - elected to Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency yesterday predicted that his win will be the beginning of a split in JD (S).

Arriving at Maharani's College in city yesterday, after the election results were announced, Siddharamaiah was speaking with media persons. He said that some MLAs of JD (S) were in close contact with him and will join him soon causing split in JD (S).

He justified his win by a narrow margin saying that it was because of the Chief Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy and JD (S) supremo H. D. Deve Gowda, who camped in the constituency for weeks on end.

He urged H. D. Kumaraswamy to resign on moral grounds for projecting Shivabasappa as a dummy candidate and claiming himself as the real contender. Siddharamaiah opined "I know Kumaraswamy will not resign, but the voters have sent a message to H. D. Deve Gowda to end dynastic rule" and added that as JD (S) has spent crores of rupees like water, enticed voters with gifts and misused power he had to face severe competition.

He ridiculed the Deputy Chief Minister for camping in the constituency for 15 days, ignoring his responsibilities in Vidhana Soudha and called it a history of sorts. When questioned about the possibilities of bringing President's rule in the State, Siddharamaiah said that it would depend on the reports of the Election Commission and the Governor.

He declared that his next agenda is to remove the corrupt Government in the State and he would tour the State to strengthen his party. He assured that he would conduct AHINDA convention in future.
