Elections Then and Now: My experiences

The King is dead! Long live the King!
We Indian's cannot copy the British slogan (regarding the death of the king). We want to imitate the British in another respect. Our politicians are trying to kill, if not the king, the system itself. It appears that they are shouting today, “Democracy is Dead, Long live Democracy!” Poor fellows, if the king of the English people is dead they can have the next in hierarchy on throne. Elections: Good versus Evil
Prof. M. Venkatarangaiya says (and all of us agree) that “voting is the final stage in the election process. All the earlier operations like preparation of correct electoral rolls, delimitation of constituencies, calling for the nominations and their scrutiny, and the arrangements for polling are all necessary only to make voting possible and meaningful. All this proceeds on the assumption that the citizen values his vote and welcomes the opportunity to cast it”. “This is also why”, says Prof. Aiya, “the election day is declared a public holiday”. The Great Karnataka Circus
The circus is about to commence. The government has banned the commissioning of animals like horses, dogs, tigers, elephants and monkeys. The helpless ring-masters have converted men into animals and are wielding the whip. The animals are running helter-skelter and crossing the rings. Do they rush towards the gallery and cause havoc? They have to play their gimmicks before the onlookers. Read On
