The Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) arrested former Tourism Minister and mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy in connection with the illegal mining case.
Srinivasa Reddy, the Managing Director of Obalapuram Mining Corporation, which is owned by the former Minister, has also been arrested. The duo will be produced before a CBI Court in Hyderabad this afternoon.
The CBI team from Hyderabad raided Reddy's house Kuteera in Bellary and escorted him to an undisclosed location for questioning, it is learnt. Srinivasa Reddy was also questioned.
Meanwhile, another team of CBI sleuths raided Reddy's residence Parijatha in Bangalore simultaneously.
The CBI raids come a day after Reddy's close confidante, former Health Minister B. Sriramulu resigning from the MLA's post.
The Reddy brothers were upset after the BJP High Command did not favour their inclusion in the Ministry, in the wake of a Lokayukta report indicting them in illegal mining.
The Obalapuram Mining Company is owned by the Reddy Bros — Karunakara Reddy, Janardhana Reddy and Somashekara Reddy.
Reddy's copter, gold, cash seized:
The CBI seized Reddy's private helicopter “Rukmini” and at his Bangalore mansion Parijatha, took away a laptop, a diary and other documents.
Other CBI officials questioned Reddy's wife Lakshmi Aruna in Kuteera, Reddy’s Bellary home. Unaccounted cash and gold were also found by CBI at Reddy's homes.
"We got about Rs. 3 crore in cash and more than 30 kgs of gold," said a CBI source, on condition of anonymity.
