Well, not exactly. It is Mahishasura's younger brother who has lost his left forearm. It is merely a statue made of PoP (Plaster of Paris), erected last year by the Karnataka Exhibition Authority (KEA) at the Dasara Exhibition ground, at the gate facing Mahatma Gandhi Road here at Mysore. The statue, which the KEA took immense pride in displaying, called it the younger brother of Mahishasura's statue atop Chamundi hill.
According to mythology, Mahishasura, the demon who was slain by Goddess Chamundeshwari, is associated with the history of Mysore. The statue in the Exhibition ground lost its forearm a few weeks ago, either due to somebody's mischief or due to faulty moulding works. But the KEA seems to be unaware of it. The handicap had not come to light as the statue was covered with cloth all these days. KEA officials claim that a Chennai sculptor donated the statue and KEA had not spent anything. Allegation: Former Mayor Mr. Narayana alleged that the KEA had spent Rs. 5 lakh for the statue's erection. Suspecting misappropriation, Mr. Narayana said that he had already lodged a complaint with Lok Ayukta in this regard. Courtesy: Star of Mysore
