A rangoli contest for women, organised by Women's Dasara Sub - Committee as part of Dasara, was held in front of Kote Anjaneya Swamy temple here at Mysore from 7.30 and 8.30 am.
District in - charge Minister S. A. Ramdas and Women and Child Welfare Minister C.C. Patil jointly launched the contest by drawing Rangoli.

Speaking on the occasion, Ramdas said the rangoli has a long history spanning over centuries. Rangoli drawing is one of the means of invoking the gods, he pointed out.
This year the prize money has been stipulated at Rs. 4,000, Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 2,000 respectively for the first 3 winners, besides a consolation prize of Rs. 1,000, he added. A total of 93 women from among the 200 registered contestants took part in this colourful show, organised ahead of the launching of Women's Dasara at J. K. Grounds this afternoon.
