After many allegations of corruption, nepotism and favoritism against B. S. Yeddyurappa, the most harassed Chief Minister in India today, the latest allegation is against the Chief Minister's son, thereby holding the Chief Minister vicariously guilty of nepotism.

The charge is that his son heads Prerana Trust which runs educational institutions in Shimoga and it has collected a whopping donation of Rs. 27 crore from various companies that are financially not doing well. Hence, the suspicion that the donations are made to extract some governmental favours for the companies that donated the money. In short, corruption in another form.

Add to this the Congress party's Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah's accusation that the Chief Minister and some of his Ministers being involved in six more scams. He has, however, not spelt out those six scams.

All these seem wild allegations and they are countered not by explaining why it cannot be a case of corruption or nepotism, but by making counter allegations not so much against Siddaramaiah but against former Chief Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy and his sibling former Minister H. D Revanna. Former Prime Minister H. D. Deve Gowda is also accused by the Chief Minister's aides of venal conduct. This allegation and counter allegation in the manner of a tit – for - tat seems to lead we the Aam Admi nowhere, neither to a corruption - free administration nor to an efficient governance.

Siddharamaiah has rightly asked, why didn't Yeddyurappa's son start Trusts and educational institutions before his father became the Deputy Chief Minister or later the Chief Minister? A very pertinent question. However, the point to ponder is, where is the illegality in setting up a Trust or an educational institution? After all, every politician in our State of some weight either owns or heads a Trust or an educational institution for which donations are raised in the same manner as done by Yeddyurappa's son. In a nudist camp all are naked. Therefore, people don't believe these politicians when allegations are bandied about at each other. There is a cardinal principle in law courts which judges are fond of reminding the litigants and their lawyers: "If you want to come to this court seeking justice, then you must come with clean hands."

Well, where are these clean hands? JD (S) and Congress are making charges of corruption via denotification, Trusts or educational institutions against Yeddyurappa. But Kumaraswamy and Siddharamaiah are also accused of indulging in the same kind of corruption through the same methods while they were in power. So, their hands are not clean either. It is like one thief giving evidence in the court against another thief. No court will accept the evidence of such a witness for lack of credibility.

Naturally, people take the allegations rather lightly, never seriously, though may not be as a joke. For these reasons, I am sure, no matter how hard the JD (S) or Congress push these accusations against Yeddyurappa, nothing can happen to him.

Even the cases in this regard that may be pending in the court would become infructuous or turn out to be a damp squib when the decision, either way, finally comes out.

Therefore, the Herculean efforts of the JD (S) and Congress to dislodge Yeddyurappa from Chief Minister's gaddi would not yield the desired results and would finally come to naught, no matter what additional weapons they may bring out from their armoury.

Here, we must remember that the JD (S) and the Congress in Karnataka know very well that as long as Yeddyurappa remains as the Chief Minister for his full five - year term, there is absolutely no scope for the Opposition to come to power in the next Assembly election in 2014 for reasons that will need another analytical Abracadabara. For now, that is the very reason the Opposition wants Yeddyurappa out by hook or crook. It is, therefore, understandable as to why the Opposition is smiling at the dissident movements that are at present dogging Yeddyurappa. The Opposition is now hoping what it could not do in dislodging Yeddyurappa, the BJP dissidents would do.

Of course, it is not the first time the dissidents in State BJP are arraigned against their own Chief Minister. As we have seen, support to dissidence had come from the Opposition as also from their own party leader Anantha Kumar, who is the BJP National General Secretary, wielding clout with the BJP High Command at the Centre and from Jagadish Shettar, a lacklustre Lingayat leader from the State. Who knows, where the Opposition in Karnataka failed to dislodge a BJP Chief Minister, that hatchet job might be done by the BJP men themselves. The BJP government would then commit harakiri and the BJP national party would score a self - goal, thus opening a political space for the Congress and the JD (S) in the State. BJP is warned.

And let us assume, the BJP dissidents succeed in dislodging Yeddyurappa. The Opposition's game plan for the next election is achieved. After all, the BJP in State, right now, without Yeddyurappa is like Pandavas going to Kurukshethra war without Lord Krishna.

So the opposition will declare a temporary truce. But the internecine war for leadership will begin in BJP with the Chief Minister – in - waiting Anantha Kumar, Shettar (by virtue of being a Lingayat) or R. Ashok (being a Vokkaliga) vying for the Chief Minister's gaddi. At this point, Karnataka voters will get disgusted with BJP and in the next election it is Congress I, JD (S) II and BJP III. Karnataka will have a coalition government with Siddharamaiah, a deserving, competent Backward Class leader and administrator, as the Chief Minister of Karnataka. If this should happen, so be it.
