Karnataka governor recommends President's rule

Karnataka is back to where it was two weeks back - President’s rule.

Governor Rameshwar Thakur recommended the imposition of President's rule soon after B. S. Yeddyurappa recommended the imposition of President's rule. The governor, in his report, has stated that there is no government in place and also said that at present no party has the requisite numbers to form the government in Karnataka. The governor has, however, not recommended dissolution of the House as he had done the previous time.

In his letter, he has stated that a final decision in this regard be taken by the Union Cabinet.

Even as the governor recommended imposition of President's rule, it seems unlikely that the state will go in for elections. The JD - S is making all efforts to ensure that elections are not held as they fear a public backlash. H D Deve Gowda, who said earlier during the day that his work in Karnataka was over, left for New Delhi where he is expected to meet with senior Congress leaders and explore the possibility of forming a government in Karnataka. Before leaving he said that he would be back in a week. He did not spell out why he was heading to New Delhi.

The BJP has made it clear that this time they would seek the mandate of the public.

Yeddyurappa will embark upon a state wide tour shortly to tell the people about the betrayal by the JD - S.
