* Gowda to meet Rajnath Singh on 6th October at 11.30 am to convey the decision taken in the JD(S) Political Affairs Committee meeting on 5th October at 5 pm in Delhi.
* BJP may withdraw support on Oct. 8 if Gowda - Singh talks fail.
* Congress leaders meet Governor, demand President's rule.
In a significant political development, the State Cabinet today decided to convene a Special Session of Legislature on Oct. 18. Though Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj Horatti, who spoke to the media later, did not disclose the agenda, political observers say that Chief Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy will seek Trust Vote in the session. Horatti said that there was nothing special in convening the session as it was decided to hold the session some time back. The Cabinet will send the resolution for the Special Session to the Governor today for his consent. BJP Ministers, who have submitted their resignations, however, boycotted the Cabinet meeting.
Soon after the meeting, the Chief Minister left for Delhi accompanied by his Minister - Brother H.D. Revanna, Home Minister M. P. Prakash and Transport Minister Cheluvarayaswamy to attend the JD (S) Political Affairs Committee meeting. Earlier in the morning, JD (S) supremo H. D. Deve Gowda, accompanied by State JD (S) President Merajuddin Patel, left for Delhi by 6.30 flight.
In another significant development, BJP Ministers and Legislators, who met at the residence of Science and Technology Minister Ramachandre Gowda, decided to withdraw support to the Government on Oct. 8 (Monday). A formal decision in this regard will be taken at the BJP Legislature Party (BJPLP) meeting on Oct. 7.
Congress' demand:
In the meanwhile, a delegation of Congress party led by KPCC (I) President Mallikarjun Kharge met the Governor Rameshwar Thakur this afternoon and urged him to recommend President's rule in the State in the wake of a Constitutional crisis.
It is illegal:
Commenting on the Cabinet decision, the Higher Education Minister D. H. Shankaramurthy said that today's meeting itself was illegal. "When we have resigned from the Cabinet, how can he (CM) hold the meeting?" he asked.
On the reported decision of the Cabinet to seek trust vote, Shankaramurthy remarked:
"We do not know whether the decision was taken outside or inside the Cabinet. What is the necessity for such a step when we have not withdrawn our support?"
JD (S) not approached Congress: D B Chandre Gowda
The JD(S) has not yet approached Congress seeking support in the event of BJP withdrawing from the coalition in Karnataka.
Former Law Minister D. B. Chandre Gowda, currently on a visit to Delhi following a call from the Congress High Command told our correspondent that "We have not heard anything from the other side (JD - S)." He briefed Prithviraj Chauhan, in - charge of party affairs in Karnataka for nearly an hour last evening on the political situation in the State. "I also discussed with him about the options available for Congress in the present situation.
Asked about the response of Chauhan, Chandre Gowda said: "Our policy is to wait and watch. The party will take a decision at an appropriate time," he added. Chandre Gowda also said that Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi was expected to return from abroad on Saturday i. e. 6th October 2007. Congress will take a decision only after her return.
Gowda invites Yeddi also for talks:
JD (S) supremo H. D. Deve Gowda is reported to have invited Dy. Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa also to be present during his meeting with BJP President Rajnath Singh in Delhi.
A meeting, who attended a meeting of BJP Legislators and Ministers at the residence of science and Technology Minister Ramachandre Gowda told our correpondent that Deve Gowda has invited only Yediyurappa, State BJP Chief Sadananda Gowda and former Union Minister Ananth Kumar to be present in the meeting.
The Minister also said that during negotiations Deve Gowda may demand the Home portfolio to be retained with the JD (S). In today's meeting, the Legislators urged Yediyurappa to reject the demand. Soon after the meeting, Yediyurappa left for Delhi around noon.
D. K. Shiva Kumar meets Governor:
Former Minister and prominent Congress leader D.K. Shiva Kumar met the Governor on last night and discussed the political developments with him. He met the Governor before Chief Minister Kumaraswamy who also had a meeting with the Governor.
About 20 senior and prominent leaders including KPCC President Mallikarjun Kharge, opposition leaders Dharam Singh and H. K. Patil, ex - Ministers Dr. G. Parameshwar and D. K. Shiva Kumar met at a 5 - star hotel and discussed the recent political developments. It is understood that in the meeting the Congress leaders have unanimously agreed not associate themselves with JD (S), if BJP withdraw support.
Congress keen to support JD (S):
Though the JD (S) supremo H. D. Deve Gowda ruled out the possibility of seeking support of Congress to JD (S) in Karnataka in the event of BJP withdrawing support, the Congress seems to be keen on extending support from outside after the BJP withdraws from the coalition. Congress sources today told our correspondent that the Union Minister Oscar Fernandez has already spoken to the Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi in this regard. Observers say that Deve Gowda himself was holding consultations with influential Congress leaders for support. He, however, refused to react when media persons asked him whether he would be meeting the Union Minister Sharad Pawar.
D. K. Shiva Kumar’s allegations:
In Bangalore, former Minister D. K. Shiva Kumar alleged that Deve Gowda was trying to purchase Congress MLAs to save his son's Government. "His tricks will not work", he said adding that the Congress MLAs were united.
