Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Ms. Uma Bharathi was released after Judicial Magistrate First Class II (JMFC -II) accepted the withdrawal of a decade -old rioting case against her by the Karnataka Government. Ms. Bharathi, who surrendered before the Court on August 25, was remanded to 14 days judicial custody. Incidentally, the Court delivered its order a day ahead of completion of the 14 - day judicial custody of Ms. Bharathi. Ms. Bharathi had been lodged in a makeshift jail in Dharwad after surrendering before the Court on August 25 in compliance with a non - bailable warrant issued against her.
Chief Judicial Magistrate First Class Mr. Mohammed Ismail allowed the application filed by the Additional Public Prosecutor Mr. N. Nagendrappa in 2002 for withdrawal of cases against Ms. Bharathi and 21 others. The Court also rejected a batch of five applications filed by social activists, including journalist Gauri Lankesh, challenging the Karnataka Government's decision to withdraw the cases. The Magistrate pronounced his brief order in the Court hall and it was communicated to the Hubli sub - jail authorities to take steps for Bharathi's release. Incidentally, Ms. Uma Bharathi, an ardent devotee of Lord Krishna, has been released on Sri Krishna Janmashtami. Reports from Hubli said Ms. Bharathi would come out of the University of Agricultural Sciences Guest House only after performing puja to Lord Krishna for three hours. The Court order was passed when the puja was underway. Courtesy: Star of Mysore Click here if you would like to Contribute or send a feedback. Click here to go to the main page of Star of Mysore.
