A scourge is haunting India today. From Kashmir to Kanyakumari. From Arunachal Pradesh to Gujarat. The scourge of terrorism. This scourge is haunting every Stupid Common Man of India today. Because it is home – grown.

Our own brothers born on this very soil, breathing the very air that our fathers, mothers and children are breathing. Drinking the same water that has sprung from this very soil of Mother India. Mother India, who also provides sustenance and shelter to these terrorists. Born out of her womb, these home-grown terrorists traumatise Mother India's children all the time through their terrorist acts.

The inspiration, finance and logistic support for these home-grown terrorists as also mercenaries come from other countries which have their own theological differences with a multi - religious and multi - ethnic country like ours.

Did India make a mistake by not declaring itself a Theocratic State as Pakistan did based on the reason why India was partitioned? In the beginning many did not think so. Now? Time alone will decide.

Many thousands of innocent Indians, women and children, have been ruthlessly and most violently subjected to bloody slaughter by these terrorists whose agenda no God, if He is merciful and compassionate as claimed by their own holy books, will ever forgive. Much less the real God will ever send these terrorists and the suicide bombers to Paradise where they will be received by dove-eyed beauties with dark, long tresses to enjoy life in their embrace forever thereafter. If it is true, then I will say it on my own authority, that He is not only a false God but also a bloodthirsty one unworthy of our daily prayers. The Stupid Common Man of this country shall not offer that God his prayers, no matter what day of the week he is obliged to pray. And then he decides to pray, in his own way, on A Wednesday.

Just last night I saw a Stupid Common Man of India offering a different kind of prayer on a Wednesday to remove the scourge of terrorism that came visiting him in the form of terrorists. The Police had arrested them but for lack of political will they were kept in prison like any ordinary criminals. In all probability, after a year or two they would walk out as free men for want of evidence beyond an iota of doubt. And they shall resume their acts of terror in the name of the same God because their faith in that God is now further reinforced with their acquittal!

I am talking about an extraordinary film by Neeraj Pandey simply titled "A Wednesday". Of course, it could be any other day but the story happens just on that one day, a Wednesday. It is just a one-and-a-half hour film which will hold you riveted to your seat from the beginning to the end. Of course, the marquee is really big. India's one of the most talented and versatile actor Nasiruddin Shah plays the pivotal role as a Stupid Common Man of India traumatized as a result of losing his dear and near ones in a terrorist act. He is ably supported by another popular and talented actor Anupam Kher as the Police Chief.

To cut a long story short, the message is that in the present scenario, the chances of tackling terrorism in our country is bleak. The manner in which our rulers and the Police are handling the terrorists is lacking in seriousness of purpose as also in political will. As we know, despite the long arm of the law catching these terrorists, the rulers are reluctant to extend full support to the Police to prosecute them and get their convictions in the courts.

Hence, in this film the helpless Stupid Common Man of India, Nasiruddin Shah, hatches a plan to "clean up his house of deadly cockroaches in his own way" using his computer and cell phone skills in which he is quite savvy.

The authorities are either reluctant to honestly prosecute the arrested terrorists or they are deliberately delaying the prosecution of terrorists for political reasons. Hence, this Stupid Common Man of India decides to eliminate these four terrorists whom he apparently knew as being guilty but was convinced that the rulers and the State machinery would not punish them at the end. So he decides to kill them using the very Police force in the same way these terrorists use the explosives.

I strongly recommend this film to the "Stupid Common Indians" who form the bulk of our population. In the matter of containing terrorism or punishing those who are caught, we cannot compare ourselves to the White man or the Chinese. But at least, we can see this film and derive vicarious pleasure! After all what else can we do except grin and bear the scourge of terrorism? And we are not as intelligent as that Stupid Common Man Nasiruddin Shah of the film!
