Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) opened its account in South India with B. S. Yeddyurappa taking over as the first - ever BJP Chief Minister, thus creating history.
He was sworn - in on the steps of Vidhana Soudha this noon (12th November) amidst much fanfare.
None from the JD (S), including Deputy Chief Minister-designate (who is yet to be named), took oath today. They are expected to take oath on Nov. 21.

Governor Rameshwar Thakur administered the oath of office and secrecy to the 26th Chief Minister exactly at 12 noon, 10 minutes ahead of schedule.
More than 25,000 people had gathered around Vidhana Soudha. As Yeddyurappa was taking oath, the crowd cheered him and burst crackers.
Four of his colleagues in the previous Cabinet — Aravind Karajola, Dr. V. S. Acharya, Jagadish Shettar and R. Ashok — took the oath as Ministers along with Yeddyurappa. Neither Katta Subramanya Naidu nor K. S. Eshwarappa take oath as expected earlier.
The ceremony concluded in 10 minutes. Soon after the ceremony, the Chief Minister went to the VIP enclosure and greeted former Chief Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy.
Top BJP leaders including former Deputy Prime Minister L. K. Advani, Party President Rajnath Singh, Vice - President M. Venkaiah Naidu, former Union Minister Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi, High Command Observer Yeshwant Sinha, General Secretary Ananth Kumar and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivaraj Singh Chauhan and Gujarat CM Narendra Modi were present.
MLAs and MLCs of BJP and JD (S) including former Chief Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy, former Minister M. P. Prakash, State JD (S) President Merajuddin Patel, several Swamijis, litterateurs, sports persons including Anil Kumble and other dignitaries.
Yeddyurappa came to the venue at 11.45 am along with his family members and other Ministers who were sworn - in today.
Swears in the name of God & farmers:
He is the true son of the soil. When occupying the highest position of the State, B. S. Yeddyurappa did not forget the farmers of this State.
Born as the son of a poor farmer (Bookanakere, Mandya district), Yeddyurappa created another history when he took the oath as CM in the name of “God and farmers” of the State.
