Budget
session of the MCC:
The
2001-02 Budget Plenary session of the Mangalore City Corporation
took place this past week at the MCC auditorium. On this
occasion Mayor Smt. Sundari, Deputy Mayor Sri. Basheer
Baikampadi and the Commissioner Sri. J.R. Lobo, members
of the standing committees, Leaders and members of the
opposition, officials of the MCC and others were present.
Amanath
Co-operative bank in Mangalore:
The
Bangalore Based Amanath Co-operative Bank Ltd. Has opened
its branch in Mangalore at West coast Commercial complex
in nellikkai Road near state bank of India. The former
chief minister of Karnataka, Sri.M.Veerappa Moily, inaugurated
the branch on the 24th of this month. This bank which
holds a scheduled bank status, also possesses an ATM facility,
which was inaugurated by the minister in charge, DK district
Sri. Ramanatha Rai. On this occasion MLA Sri. Yogish Bhat,
Sri, UT Fareed, Sri. K.M.Ibrahim, Sri. Vijayakumar Shetty,
Rajya Sabha member Sri. Rahaman Khan and others were present.
Annual
Conference of DK telephone Booth Owners association
To
attract the attention of the central and state governments
and the Bharath sanchar Nigam Limited to the problems
faced by the public call booth owners, in the dakshina
kannada telecom district, a conference of the booth operators
was organized on the 25th of March at the Koragappa Memorial
Hall, of the Kudroli temple in Mangalore. It was inaugurated
by the Udupi Loksabha Member Sri.Vinaya Kumar sorake and
was presided over by MLA Sri. Yogish Bhat. A face to face
discussion with the representatives of the people and
the officials of the BSNL was also held at the same meeting
with a view to find a permanent solution to the various
problems faced by the PCO operators. On this occasion
Sri. D.U.Sadananda Gowda, the MLA from Puttur, and Sri.
K.J. Chacko, General manager DK telecom district, and
Sri. B. K. Bajpayee, Manager Udupi zone were present.
Sultan
Battery renovated:
Sultan
Battery, a blast from the past, which is believed to have
been built by Tippu Sultan to counter the attack from
the British war ships, was in a very dilapidated condition.
Several cracks, missing stones, damaged stairs had destroyed
the beauty of this mini tourist attraction. But thanks
to the efforts of Sri. Yogish Bhat, MLA, the archaeological
survey of India has taken up the renovation of the sultan
battery. The sultan battery now fully renovated has been
once again attracting visitors from all over the place.

Our
New studio and Office:
Sri.T.C.M.Shareef,
DYSP, inaugurated our new studio and office on The 26th
of March at 4 pm. Sri.Basheer Baikampadi, Deputy Mayor,
inaugurated the office. It was presided by Sri. Kallige
Tharanatha Shetty. The Head priest of the Bajpe Sri. Shaneeshwara
Temple, Sri. Ananda Poojari blessed the studios. Sri.
Ivan D'souza, Sri. P.P. Hegde, Sri. Balaraj Rai, Sri.
Narayana Shetty, advocates were the guests of honor. On
this occasion Sri. Rohit Raj, CEO of New Mangalore channel,
J, Vishwanath, Smt. Mamata Rohit Raj and others were present.

Blood
donation camp:
A
blood donation camp was organized under the joint sponsorship
of Sri. Swami Bhaktha Yuvaka Mandali and Lions club, Bendorewell
this past week at the Kodikal School. Sri.Padmanabha Amin,
corporator, Mangalore City Corporation, inaugurated it.
MJF Sri. Nagesh Kumar president Lions club, bendorewell
and Sri. Malik, sub inspector, Urwa police station were
the guests of honor. On this occasion Dr. A. D. Bhandari,
Attached to the Mangalore nursing home, Sri. Durgaprasad
Mallya, President of the SBY mandali and Sri. Shankar
Amin Vice president were also present.
Protest:
The
members and workers Janatha Dal secular, Bengere Zone,
Mangalore staged a protest at the Mangalore city corporation
premises against the high handedness of sri. M. Farooq,
Corporator this past week and demanded his resignation.
It is alleged that Sri. Nasir Hussain a social worker
and worker of the JD(s) had complained to the Mangalore
city corporation about the low quality of the developmental
work in the Bengere area and the unnecessary wastage of
money in the name of development. In retaliation it is
said that sri. Farooq employed a few goons and beat Sri.
Nasir. The president of the district JD(S) Sri. Ivan D'souza,
Sri. Farooq Ullal, President of the Ullal Yuva Janatha
Dal, City JD(s) president Sri. Mohammad usman and others
were also present.
