    Elected :sri. Sadananda Shetty, president of the Sri devi education trust and chairman of the Quality group of concerns has been elected the president of the Bantara Yaane Nadavara Sangha, at the 87th annual meeting held this week.

    Send off to haj pilgrims:The Sunni Muslim Action committee of South kanara district, recently organised a send off programme for the haj pilgrims from south kanara. the kahatib of the central jumma masjid, ibrahim darimi, blessed the pilgrims and wished them good luck. the president of thea ction commitee Sri. C. Ahmed Jamal, Eminent lawyer shri Sulaiman and others were present.

    Flower Exhibition in city : Watch out Mangalore….!!!The Flower and friut exhibition organised by the horticultural department of the district will be inaugurated by Sri. Ramanatha Rai, Minister in charge DAkshina kannada district on the 17th of February at the Kadri Park according to the information given to Us.

    More Relief for Gujarat: A ship laden with relief materials is all ready to set sail on the 10th of February from the New MAngalore port. this ship MV GE4, owned by Kini Shipping services will be carrying Clothing, medicines and other essential commodities. the people have been requested to donate generously and the response has been quite good.

    The kudroli Yuvak sangha organised a relief collection drive for the victims of the devastating earthquake. the padayatre was led by the honorary president of the association Sri. lAkshmana Bangera and the president Sri shankar Barke. The people of the locality gave an overwhelming support to the drive.

    The Hindu Yuva Sena. through a PADAYATRA had collected Rs. 30,000 for the people of gujarat in the last week. the same was handed over to the DC, Sri Kapil Mohan to be sent to the people of gujarat.

    Trouble at Kateel Once again : kateel seems to be making the headlines these days, because of the skirmishes between the senior and junior priests. last week it is alleged that the junior priest, sri. harinarayana asranna, Vasudeva asranna and Venkatramana Asranna assaulted the chief priest Sri. LAkshminarayana Asranna, who has since been admitted to Unity Health complex. The Area wore a deserted look and business establishments were closed.

    Public Works Inaugurated: The public utility works which have been undertaken under the auspices of the Grama panchayat Malavoor, were inaugurated today by Sri. Vijayakumar Shetty, MLA surathkal. The works include drinking water lines from Sri devi Bhajana Mandir to Ambedkar NAgar, and metalling of the roads of sri. devi Bhajana Mandir and the school. Sri rolphy Dcosta, sri. Chandrahas rai, Smt. shakunthala Naik and other dignitaries were present.

    Huge Heroin Haul: It was a record of sorts in the history of the crime files of Dakshina kannada. The DRI officers intercepted a person near the surathkal bus stand and seized heroin, valued in the international market at around 5 crores. the accused was identified as rehamat pasha of Ankola. The officers of the DRI had been on the trail of Suspected narcotics dealings in and around mangalore. Sri. DM Soori, Sri. Ramakrishna, Sri. UT joseph, senior intelligence officers took part in this raid, under the guidance of the Additional director of the DRI sri. Saheb Singh. The team was led by the Assistant Director of the DRI Sri. K.A thomas. the smuggling and slae of narcotics including brown sugar and ganja has been on the rise, and this haul was the Third incident in a short period of time, according to DRI Senior Intelligence officer Sri. DM soori.

    PAnchayat Raj Meeting: A meeting of the representatives of the people under the panchayat RAj was organised today at the A. B. Shetty Memorial Hall by the DK Zilla Panchayat. it was presided over by the minister in charge Dakshina KAnnada District. it was inaugurated by the state rural development and panchayat raj minister sri. M. Y. ghorpade. Speaking on the occasion the DK. Zilla Panchyat president, Sri. sadanada Poonja said that The DKZP has organised a lot of developmental works in the district, and that a lot of transperancy has been introduced in its working. he also said that women had been given almost 51% reservation in the DKZP, and that they have been lending active support to the developmental activities of the DKZP. he also said that Grampanchayats were the backbone of the zilla panchayath and that they had been giving extra attention to the development of the same. he said that the DKZP had sanctioned the construction of 1490 houses Under the rural housing scheme and that the state rural development department had been activiely rendering support. the Vice rpesident of the DKZP SMT. Ratnavathi Gowda, SRi Yogish Bhat MLA, Sri Abhayachandra Jain MLA Moodbidri, Sri. KM ibrahim MLA Vittala, DKZP officials, staff and about 600 representatives were present.

    Golden Jubilee celebrations: The Disrtict level meeting and the golden jubilee of the DK High school headmasters and composite PU college principals Association Mangalore was held at the Jawahar Nehru Hall at Panambur This week. It was presided over by Sri. Ramantha Rai, Minister in charge Dk district.After a minute in silence for the memory of those departed in the devastating earthquake in Gujarat, The delegates were welcomed by a colourful March past . It was inaugurated by Sri. H. Vishwanath. Minister for education, Karnataka. The Udupi Lok sabha representative Sri. Vinaya Kumar sorake, sri. Abhayachandra, MLC, Chairman of NMPT Capt. Ramkumar, Deputy director of the PUC education Department, Mangalore Sri. C. Mahadeva, president of the association of headmasters and principals for Karnataka State Sri. K. T. Sri Kantegowda and Others were present. Speaking on this occasion, the minister for education sri. Vishwanath, informed the audience about the education policy in the state, and the new concept of Community learning or 'Samudayadatta Shale". He praised the Minister in charge of DK district, Sri.Ramantha Rai, for his active participation in spreading education and literacy in the district. He called for a meaningful dialogue between the parents, the teachers and the representatives of the people so as to improve the quality of education in the state. And that quality of education can be improved only by the society and not by the education department.
