Celebrated:

The church of Our Lady of health more popularly known as Nityadaar Mathe church, celebrated its annual feat this week. The mass was con -celebrated by rev. Fr. Alban D'souza who was the first parish priest of this church, Fr. Marcel Saldanha of the Palneer church, Fr. Peter Seraao of the St. Sebastian Church Thokottu, and Fr. Denis Suares, the Present parish priest of the church. Thousands of devotees attended the mass and asked for god's forgiveness and blessings.

Mahashivarathri at Kudroli:

Mahashivarathri was celebrated on the 21st of this month with much pomp and glamour at the world famous Kudroli Gokarnatheshwara temple. The kudroli temple is one of the most important landmarks in Mangalore city, with a rich history spanning 100 years. The various Poojas were witnessed by hordes of devotees gathered there.

Various Poojas were held f at the shrine, like the 'Homa' in the morning, The Maharudrakalasha at noon, followed the shathaseeyalabahishekha and the mahapooja. Smt. Suma Vasanth, Minister actively took part in the various rituals. The president of the managing committee Sri. H.S. Sairam was also present.

The kudroli Gokarnatheshwara temple is one of its kinds in Mangalore. It has a serene atmosphere, which puts at ease all the tensions in the minds of the devotees and fills them up emotionally and spiritually. It has the ability to make a believer forget all his worldly pains and sufferings, in a breath taking surrounding filled with peace and silence. The temple, which has been illuminated for shivarthri, provided a breath taking view spreading far and wide the light of the holy one!

Road Safety Week:

The road safety week was inaugurated under the auspices of the district police and the Mangalore city traffic police by Sri.Thejomaya President of the Mangalore Urban Development Authority this Monday at the town hall. It was presided over by the Inspector General of the western range Sri Dharampal negi. The District Commissioner Sri. Kapil Mohan, The SP, Sri. Seemanth Kumar Singh, Additional SP Sri. S.V. Kishan Prasad, Commissioner of the Mangalore City Corporation Sri. J. R. Lobo, RTO Sri. Manjunathayya, D.Y.S.P. Sri. T.C.M. Shareef, Police Circle Inspector Sri. Papayya and others were also present.

A training programme on safe driving was also held at the police club for the drivers. At this programme the drivers were instructed on the essentials of road safety and safe driving. At the programme the drivers of the school busses, public busses, taxis, and auto rickshaw drivers were instructed upon by the Mangalore ARTO and the senior Motor Vehicle inspectors. On this occasion the senior Inspector of vehicles Sri. Philip D'souza, Sri. Keshava Dharani, Sri. Manjunatha.S, Sri. Thippeswami. B, Traffic police Sri. Papayya, Sri. Upendra, Sri. Narayan and others were present

On the third day, a zebra crossing at the lady hill circle was repainted and rededicated to the society. It was inaugurated by the PSI of the Mangalore West station Sri. P. NArayan in the presence of MCC corporators Sri. Padmanabha Amin, Sri. Shashidhar Hegde, Sri. K. Bhaskar and Police staff Sri. Sanjiva, Sri. Ravindranath, Sri. Ishwara swami, road users and MCC officials. In another programme a traffic controller was installed at the 'Avery' junction at falnir, which is one of the most accident-prone spots due to the convergence of 5 roads. The SP. Sri.Seemanth Kumar Singh laid the foundation stone of the new circle. This was witnessed by The DYSP Sri.T.C.M. Shareef, Traffic Police Inspector Sri. Papayya, MCC corporators Smt. Mariamma Thomas, Sri. Ramachandra Karkera, PSI Sri. Narayan, sri. Vishwanath, Sri. Chandramohan, Sri. U Ramakrishna, MCC Engineers Sri. Kamath, Executive Engineer Sri. Narayan, Police staff and others.

On the fourth day of the road safety week, students of the Lady Hill Victoria girls high school, St. Ann's High school distributed pamphlets containing the rules to be followed by the drivers to make the roads more safer, and by the other users of the road as well as flowers to encourage the drivers to drive in a disciplined manner.

On the fifth day of the Road safety week, the scouts and guides of the various schools of Mangalore lent their hand in controlling the traffic at the various arterial roads of the city like Wenlock Hospital junction, Hampankatta Junction, PVS junction, Clock Tower Junction, Lalbagh Junction and other places. This is one of the most important measures taken by the DK police, of using traffic controllers in the form of students / scouts and guides. This programme not only reduces the pressure on the police force, but also instills a sense of discipline among the drivers, for they are being watched by the children on how they go about following the traffic rules. It also helps in educating the children on how to use the roads, how to cross them etc. There was active participation from the students of Kerala Samajam School, Canara School, Victoria high school, and St. Mary's school.
