Sugama Sangeetha - Mysore Dasara 2003


Ten well-known light-music singers are presenting this programme. These distinguished singers have carved out a niche for themselves in the realm of light-music by taking the lyrics of poets to the common man. They have won many awards besides winning the hearts and applause of the audiences. The singers who are taking part are Sri. Shimoga Subbanna, Madikeri Nagendra, Raju Ananthaswamy, S. Mallanna, Kikkeri Krishnamurthy, Dr. Rohini Mohan, Smt Premalatha Divakara, Ravindra Soragave, Smt. Divya Raghavan and Smt. Supriya Acharya.

Violin Recital:
Lagudi Jayaraman - Mysore Dasara 2003Sri. Lalgudi G. Jayaraman has achieved a high statusquo as a violinist in India. Melody and rhythm has been his forte. He has an uncanny brilliance to be accessible to both the lay - listeners and the connoisseurs. He has inherited music from his childhood. Travelled widely all over the globe. Sri. Jayaraman has been honoured with many titles and awards. "Bharata Jyothi", "Nada Vidya Ratnakara", "Vadya Sangeetha Kalarathna", "Padmabhushana T. chowdaiah Award" are some of them.

Carnatic Music:
Dr. Balamuralikrishna - Mysore Dasara 2003Dr. Balamuralikrishna is the foremost Carnatic vocalist in the country. Besides being a great singer Dr. Balamuralikrishna is a musicologist of a high caliber. He has produced more than 400 audio cassettes and has the distinction of singing in many languages like Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Oriya, Hindi, Malayalam and French. He has won innumerable admirers and fans at home and abroad. "Padmabhushana", "Gana Sudhakara", "Ganakala Shikhamani", "Sangeetha Kalanidhi", "Sangeetha Sarvabhouma" are some of the titles conferred on him.

At Jaganmohana Palace:

Bharatanatya:
Susheela Mehta - Mysore Dasara 2003 East meets west only as a result of an endeavour to art's thirst in Smt. Sushela Mehta. She is a rare blend of Hindustani Music and Bharatanatyam. She took to this flambuoyant art form under the tutelage of Padmashree Kalaimamani Adyar K. Lakshman of Chennai in his "Bharatachudamani" institute of dance. She has danced all over the country and abroad and has won applause in paramount.

"Nruthya Roopaka" (Nruthya Payana):
Vyjayanthi Kashi - Mysore Dasara 2003Vyjayanthi Kashi is Inadia's most celebrated danseuse, choreographer, dance therapist, research and guru. She is best known as the dynamic force in Kuchipudi. She has conquered the whole world by and large through her scintillating performances. She dances not only for ecstasy but even for courtesy. Her mercy towards physically and mentally handicapped children has made her more remarkable in dance field.

30th September, Tuesday:
Bharatanatya:
Kum. Niveditha - Mysore Dasara 2003Kum. Niveditha, a quinine young talent of Bharatanatya, hails from Dakshina Kannada District. She has been greatly attracted by the fascinating field of dance right from her tender age. Under the tutelage of Guru Vidushi Sheela Shridar, Niveditha has acquired vidwat in Bharatanatyam. As just an example of her exotic dancing, she has been adjudged "the dancer of the year" once by Rotary Club.

"Nritya Roopaka" (Chitrangada):
Smt. Veena Murthy Vijay - Mysore Dasara 2003Smt. Veena Murthy Vijay is an exponent of Kuchipudi dance art. She hails from the land of culture and has been fortunate enough to receive training form mentors like Dr. Korada Narasimha Rao and Sri. Ganapathy Chinna Sathyam. She has grown as dancer of high caliber in the international arena of dancing.

At Kalamandir:
29th September, Monday:
Ustad Zahidulla Khan - Mysore Dasara 2003Khawali:
Ustad Zahidulla Khan is a famous Gazal and Khawali singer. He is well known singer and rendered Gazals and Khawali in Kannada and Urdu languages. His programmes in Dooradarshan and Akashavani are appreciated by one and all.

Drama (Yayati):
Kannada Naataka - Yayathi : Mysore Dasara 2003Creation: Grirish Karnad

"Nandana" a famous drama troupe was founded by Sri Devnagesh ten years ago. The troupe has enacted more than 150 dramas so far. "Nandana" created a world record by staging a play for hundred hours continuously in january 2001. The troupe is presenting Girish Karnada's acclaimed play "Yayati" under the direction of Devnagesh.

30th September, Tuesday:
Sugama Sangeetha:
Sri Jagadeesha Kalavrinda : Mysore Dasara 2003"Sri Jagadeesha Kalavrinda" has been presenting light music and folk songs for the last several years. Sri Jagadeesh was an employee of Lac and Paint factory and he has been pursuing light music as an avocation.

 

Drama (Chinnada Gombe):
Sri. Adishakti Krupaposhita Drama Company consists of professional artistes who are enacting social and mythological dramas throughout Karnataka for the past 30 years. "Chinnada Gombe" (Golden Doll) will be staged under the direction of Sri Shivanna.

At Open Air Theatre - Yuva Dasara:
29th September, Monday:
Fusion Music from Thermal and A Quarter Group, Bangalore.
Variety of group dances by South African students.
Gidda dance of Punjab.
Variety of group dances by the students of Mysore Medical College, Mysore.
Group dances by the students of Mahajan First Grade College and Sadvidya Junior College,Mysore.
Folk dance and a short play by the students of D. Banumaiah Arts and Commerce College, Mysore.

30th September, Tuesday:

Group dance and short drama (Roopaka) by the students of Mahajana First Grade College, Mysore
