The effort of Mysore City Corporation to give a facelift to the city roads before Dasara resulted in defacing the roads. The roads were dug up and heaps of debris and large trenches are beckoning the Dasara tourists.
The Devaraj Urs Road is in a total mess as the footpath was dug up a year ago to lay uniform interlocking tiles. The work is yet to take off.
MATF member M. Lakshman had written a letter to the Deputy Commissioner S. Selva Kumar requesting him to instruct the departments concerned to clear the heaps of debris and to complete the work of laying tiles.
The work of laying tiles on D. Devaraj Urs Road was taken up a couple of days ago and now the road appears like a battle ground with debris strewn all around. Some shop - owners on the road pointed out to Lakshman that the work could have been taken up after Dasara.

Lakshman urged the Deputy Commissioner to instruct the departments to restore the footpath on the outer periphery of Mysore Palace, Vivekananda Road, Yadavagiri, KRS Road, M. G. Road and Narayana Sastry Road, which were dug up.
Road junctions at Adichunchanagiri Road and New Kantharaj Urs Road were dug up to install traffic signals, but the debris were not cleared and ditches remain unfilled even after the work was completed, he complained.
Lakshman also complained that the authorities are flouting the rules while digging up the roads by not putting up signboards indicating, "work under progress" at the work sites. He had drawn the attention of the Deputy Commissioner to the trench dug up by Vani Vilas Water Works near Akashavani Circle for repairing the water pipe, which is creating hurdles for vehicles and pedestrians.
