Sir,

It was sickening to read about the episode involving Azeez Sait who
smoked cigarettes at public functions on August 11th and again on the
Independence day in utter violation of the ban on smoking in public. In the first incident, he smoked right under the nose of the Home Minister and what is more the DGP & IGP of Karnataka, even as the authorities looked on helplessly.

This emboldened him to repeat it on the solemn occasion of the Independence Day with mocking impunity. While the cigarette epitomizes the utter lack of decency and the disregard of the law on the part of the crooked politician who has been a law unto himself all his life, the law-enforcement authorities are also to blame for winking at him. It is their pusillanimity in dealing with law-breakers like Azeez Sait and others of his ilk which is responsible for the criminalization of our polity.

Barring a few exceptions, this crooked politician has treated police
officers and law-enforcement authorities with scant respect. It is only people like Ex-DGP Dinkar, former DSP Mr.Abdul Karim and the slain police officer M.Shakeel Ahmed who have had the guts and gumption
to show him his place during their stints as police officers at Mysore and
elsewhere.

One hopes Sait is dragged out of his seat the next time he smokes in
public or whenever he is found breaking a law, if only to uphold the rule of
law.I urge the cops not to allow the cigarette-puffing Sait to become the role-model for the citizens of this country, especially for the youth.

Thanking you,
yours sincerely,
M.Jameel Ahmed,
