Rs. 60 crore worth
crops damaged:
Arakalgud taluk panchayath president Yogesh said that the
taluk had sustained a crop loss of over Rs.60 crore due to
failure of rains. Speaking to media persons in Arakalgud
he said ryots, who were happy over the good rains they
received in the initial stages, had sown paddy in 500
hectares, potato in 3500 hectares, tobacco in 13096
hectares, ragi in 7250, and maize in 3050 hectares. All
the crops had dried up since they did not receive rains
after sowing, he said. Due to the negligence of the
District-in- charge minister and the MLA, the taluk has
not been included in the list of drought-hit taluks, he
said.
New brand of coffee:
The Best Coffee Trading Company in Hassan will release
"Best Coffee", a new brand of coffee into the
market shortly said G C Chandra Mohan, one of the
partners. He said the new quality of coffee is being made
from the best variety of beans. Care is being taken in
processing and powdering to achieve hundred percent
successes, he said. "In addition to selling coffee
powder, we also give liquid coffee and cold coffee to our
customers", he added. He said the company plans to
open distribution centers in all small towns and cities in
the state.
Bridge repair work on
NH 48:
The Government has increased the rate of petrol and diesel
by 3 paise per litre. The difference in the price is due
to the repair work being carried out on a bridge, which
has developed cracks on the National Highway- No. 48 near
B.C.Road. As a result vehicles are forced to take a round
about route. The hiring charges for lorries become Rs.360
more per day. To get the bridge repaired quickly, the
government has decided to levy 3 paise extra per litre to
cover the repairing charges of the bridge. The hike has
come into force from August 2nd itself. The Authorities
should initiate proper measures to take up repair work in
record time, the public has urged.
Stolen articles
recovered:
Gowribidanur police have recovered stolen articles from 6
persons, who were arrested in four dacoity cases.
Sub-Inspector Parashuramappa who learnt that Gowribidanur
police had arrested Garudi Anjaneyalu and five others
approached the Court and took them to the judicial
custody. The stolen articles were recovered after
interrogation. Police officer Nanjunda Swamy said the six
had looted the houses of K.Honnappa and Rajanna in Mini
Vidhana Soudha extension in Arasikere, M R Manjunath at
Yadapura in Arasikere taluk and Nidagodu Vittala Settigar
in Belur taluk, and a farmhouse belonging to Geejihalli
Chandrashekhar near Arasikere.
Illegal alcohol
seized:
The city police have seized illegal stock of alcohol worth
over Rs. 90 lakh at two places in Santhepet.
Rs. 18 crore drought
relief plan for Hassan district:
Deputy Commissioner L K Ateeq has sent a Rs. 18 crore
proposal for initiating drought relief works in the
district. He told media persons that Channarayapatna taluk
was included in the first list of drought-hit taluks. In
the second stage, Belur, Arasikere and Hole Narasipur
taluks have been included. Now the administration has to
create 23-lakh human days work for agriculture labours in
the district, he said. Drinking water and fodder had to be
provided first he added. For initiating drought relief
works, task force committees led by MLAs would be set up.
The district level task force committee will review the
progress of all the taluk committees once in a fortnight,
the DC said.
"SC/ST wards
ignored":
The Municipal authorities are spending lakhs of rupees on
some constituencies but ignore even essential works in the
wards represented by the schedule castes and tribes,
alleged Congress Councillor Gokul Murthy at Hole Narasipur
Municipal Council meeting. The president is not convening
council meetings regularly, he alleged and demanded that
higher-ups conduct and an inquiry into the way things are
run. Gokul Murthy objected to placing three months receipt
and expenditure statement before the meeting violating the
norms. When president Pushpavathi attempted to clarify on
the monthly meetings many councilors raised the objections
against the irregular procedures.
Certificate to avail crop
insurance:
Taluk Tahasildar T Lakke Gowda has requested the Bank
Managers to accept attestation certificates instead of RTC
from Village Accountants for availing crop insurance
benefit for the ryots. Since July 31st was the last date
for crop insurance it is essential to accept village
accountant's certificate and two photos of the
policyholder, he said. The Tahasildar has also suggested
the ryots who want to avail of the benefit approach Banks
with the certificate issued by the Village Accountant and
two photos of the applicant.
District level
Bharatanatyam competition:
The district level Bharatanatyam competition will be held
at the District Karnataka Sahithya Bhavan on August 18th.
District Kannada Sahithya Parishath and the Metro Junior
Chamber have jointly organized this programme.
