Kalamela on August 3
& 4:
Gayatri Social Trust, Bangalore and Jai Maruthi Yuvaka
Kala Sangha, Harabihalli in Hassan district have jointly
organized a Kalamela on Aug 3 and 4 at Kalabhavan.
Classical music, dance, folklore music, Bhavageethe,
Jogipadas, Sobana padas, Lavani, mono-acting, etc will be
staged. Dramas enacted by a minimum of five-six members
and which finishes in an hour can also be staged. Those
interested can contact Gayatri Social trust, II stage,
HAL, Indiranagar, Bangalore between 10 am and 5 pm or
Vaishali lodge, first floor, KSRTC bus stand, Hassan on
July 15 and July 16, according to a press release.
People told to collect
saplings:
The senior assistant director of horticulture department
has requested the people of Hassan and surrounding places
to collect saplings of brinjal, tomato and green chilies
from the nursery in front of Krishna Hotel on B M Road in
Hassan free of cost. He said the department had raised
these saplings to inculcate the habit of kitchen gardening
wherever possible in the city and elsewhere. Saplings can
also be collected at DC bungalow nursery and APMC yard
nursery.
Natakotsava from July
26:
The district Kannada Sahitya Parishat and Kannada Yuva
Sene have jointly organized Natakotsava in memory of late
H. S. Krishnamurthy who had served as the president of the
city municipality for two terms, Parishat president H. B.
Madana Gowda said. Speaking to media persons he said the
Natakotsava would be held for three days, from July 26 at
Kalabhavan.
Social worker dies:
Social worker and Medar community leader Basavaraj,
popularly known as Bombu Basavaraj, died at a private
nursing home in Bangalore on Monday. Basavaraj was the
dharmadarshi of Sri Channakeshva temple here and was
associated with many social service organizations in the
city and elsewhere. City municipal president
Channaveerappa, senior advocate B. S. Venkateshamurthy,
Channakeshava temple convener Karturi and other
dignitaries attended the funeral and paid their last
respects to the departed soul.
Houses promised to
villagers:
The State Government has sanctioned 1,500 houses for
villagers of Channarayapatna taluk who have been displaced
following the construction of the Bagur-Navile tunnel,
said H. S Vijaya Kumar, president, Taluk Ashraya
committee, Channarayapatna. Speaking to media persons he
said Revenue Minister H. C Srikantiah has requested the
State Government to sanction at least 3,000 houses. The
Government has agreed to sanction the houses in two
installments, he said. The construction work for this
first installment, in which 1,500 houses, 750 houses will
be distributed to those belonging to the general category
and another 750 houses to those under the Scheduled
Caste/Scheduled Tribe category, he said. The State
Government has also sanctioned 440 houses for the
ruralites in the taluk, 50 houses in municipal limits and
53 houses under Ambedkar Housing Scheme, he said.
Fair price shops
licenses taken off:
The Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies has
suspended licenses of six fair price shops in the taluk
for not receiving food grains from the depot within a time
stipulated by the department. Deputy Director G. K Rajanna
said owners of fair price depots at Nidudi, Tavaradevara
koppal, anugavalli, Tirupathihalli and Gorur have been
suspended. "We are inviting fresh applications from
interested parties to make alternative arrangements,"
he said.
Veterinarian's house
robbed:
A house situated on the roadside at Chamundihalli near
Channarayapatna town was robbed. A gang of four entered
the house of Manja Setty in the wee hours of Friday. Manja
Setty is a veterinary doctor and his wife Krishnaveni is
an auxiliary nurse mid-wife (ANM). The couple, who opened
the door after they heard someone knocking, where
frightened to see the gang. They tried to shout for help
and attract the attention of the neighbors. But the gang
members hit them on their heads with an iron rod and
entered the house. They later threatened the couple's son
if he did not co-operate. They then took away gold jewels
worth Rs 50,000. Manja Setty and Krishnaveni have been
admitted to the district general hospital. Circle
Inspector of Police at Channarayapatna has visited the
spot. Fingerprints of the culprits have been sent for
investigation, he said. A case has also been registered
and investigation is on, the CPI said.
Government asked to
waive off loans of coffee growers:
The Coffee growers Association had organized a bandh to
protest the apathy of the Union Government to the problems
faced by growers. The Coffee Board and banks downed their
shutters in protest. Addressing a huge gathering at Belur,
H. K Javaregowda said: "Though the State and Central
Governments had earned crores of revenue through crores of
revenue through taxes and foreign exchange, they have
failed to provide succor to coffee growers at the time of
crisis. The Government should step in and waive off
loans." "The present interest of Rs 230 crore
could be waived off by the Central government," he
said.
Rains arrive in Hassan
after 3-week gap:
Rains have arrived after a lapse of more than three weeks
in the district. While Sakleshpur received around 7 mm,
Vanagur, Goddhu, Mageri and surrounding villages of
Sakaleshpur taluk also received 7 mm. Heavy rains were
experienced in Hoskote of Alur taluk (18.8 mm). Mallipatna
in Arkalgud taluk also received 7 mm. But Arkalgud town
received only 2 mm. Some parts of Hassan taluk received
only 1 mm while some portions did not receive any rains at
all.
Seed growing:
A meeting was called to discuss the possibility of growing
potato seeds in the district. At present, potato seeds are
brought from Punjab and Haryana. The transportation costs
to get these seeds are very high. Hence it was decided to
cultivate potato seeds in the district on an experimental
basis on 50 acres of land by progressive farmers who have
irrigation facilities. BR Vasudev, Zilla Panchayat
president, who hails from the potato cultivation regions,
presided over the meeting. Dr Krishnappa of Bangalore
Agriculture University spoke.
Stone laid for Bar
Assn building:
A lawyer's profession is a social service, Rajya Sabha
member H. K Javare Gowda said. He was presiding over
foundation stone laying function for the construction of
the second floor of the Bar Association building. He said
he would donate Rs 8 lakh for the construction of the
building from the Rajya Sabha member's fund. He directed
the engineers to take up good quality work. Deputy
Commissioner L K Ateeq, who was the chief guest, said
grants from the MP's fund would help them to take up many
social works. Former presidents of the association Chikke
Gowda and H. D Nagendraiah, vice-president M. S Krishne
Gowda and others spoke on the occasion.
Rs 4 crore through
SHGs:
The women of Hassan district have collected Rs 4 crore
through Mahila self-help groups in the villages, B. B.
Shivappa, MLA told a seminar on SHGs and government
assistance. It was arranged by the Information department
and Taluk Panchayath, TP President Shivappa who
inaugurated the programme advised the women to improve
their economic conditions through SHGs. Vishalakshmma, TP
vice-president, said the SHGs should utilize the
Government assistance properly for the progress of their
units.
