Gowda upbeat about third front:
BJP's dismal record in by polls means a lot to JD (S) President. BJP has lost 24 of the 28 by- elections held in the country after the NDA formed government at the Centre. Its supporters like M Karunanidhi (DMK in Tamil Nadu), Mahanta in Assam and Parkash Singh Badal (Akali Dal in Punjab) had lost power during this period. BJP was relegated to the third place in the UP Assembly elections. All this unmistakably showed that the people had rejected the party's policies and voted against its performance, according to Janata Dal (Secular) President and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda. Speaking to media persons at Channarayapatna on Saturday, he claimed that the nation was badly in need of a third force, a front excluding BJP and Congress. He was on his way to his native village Paduvalahippe.

He arrived at Kirisave, the border village of Hassan district, and he was received with slogans. Each village on either side of the road from Channarayapatna to Holenarasipura had erected pandals.
