Limping developmental
projects:
Two important structures needed for the public and the
litigants were limping due to non-availability of funds
from the Govt since 10 years, Mini Vidhanasoudha
construction started 1992-93 at an estimated cost of 45
lakh is also awaiting money for completion. The court
building at Arkalagud was started in 1993 but has not been
completed yet due to the same reason. The fate of many
other Mini-Vidhanasoudha is not different at other taluk
headquarters in the district.
Grants to gram
Panchayats enhanced, says Minister:
The State Govt has increased the annual grants to gram
panchayats from Rs 3,000 to Rs 7,000 from this year, said
H C Srikantiah, Revenue Minister. Speaking as chief guest
at the inaugural function of an electrical tower at H C
Srikantiah Circle in his hometown of Hiresave, he said the
GPs should utilize these additional grants for the basic
needs of the villages.
Reservation
eligibility:
Shankarlinge Gowda, District Officer for Backward Class
and Minorities Department, here has said that BC students
whose parents' income did not exceed Rs 2 lakh were
eligible for educational reservation. Categories 2A, 2B,
3A, and 3Bs were eligible for enjoying those facilities,
he added. The Govt orders regarding reservation
eligibility to all taluk offices in the district a month
back. He clarified that the annual income of SC/ST
families, if it exceeded Rs 59,920 would not be eligible
for obtaining general hostel facilities to their wards. He
said caste and income certificates for education would be
valid only for five years. BCs and Minorities could get
these certificates from the tahasildar and not necessarily
from the DC, which was the rule earlier.
2 held for possessing
illegal explosives:
Channarayapatna police arrested one Lakkegowda of Goudgere
village and Ramakrishna of Channarayapatna town on charges
of possessing and using illegal explosives. They had tried
to destroy the house of one Nanjegowda with these
explosives, it was reported. Police said, Lakkegowda had
bought explosives from Ramakrishna and hid it in the wall
of Nanjegowda's house. He wanted to destroy the house on
the night of June 10. Previous enmity is stated to be the
reason for the murder attempt.
Murder over property
row:
The Gorur police have registered a case against Manjaiah
of Moodalahippe Koppal, his wife Papamma, Nagaraj and
Krishnegowda, on charges of murdering Chandra (30).
According to the police, on Saturday night Manjiah and his
family had been to Chandra's (Manjaiah's brother) house at
Moodalahippe. After drinks and dinner there was a dispute
between the two brothers over property. The argument
continued and in a fit of anger and in an inebriated
state, Manjaiah beat his brother with an iron rod. A
severely injured Chandra died on way to hospital.

Prakash, Dy SP Mutthuraya and other senior officers
visited the spot.
Man admits to killing
girl:
The Holenarsipura police have arrested Girish of
Kattehosalli near Holenarasipura on charge of murdering a
girl. One-year back, Padma (aged around 16 years) of
Kattehosalli who had gone to attend a computer class to
Holanarasipura did not return. The villagers spread
rumours that she had eloped with her boyfriend. But after
3 to 4 months a skeleton was found in a sugarcane field.
After a thorough inquiry it was found that is was Padma's
skeleton. During interrogations, Girish confessed to
killing Padma.
Retired postal
employee dies:
Subbanna popularly known as post Subbanna, died of cardiac
arrest on Sunday noon. Subbanna, a retired postal
employee, had taken up small savings collections and
collected crores of rupees savings in the last five years.
He had contributed liberally for various public works and
recently promised to donate Rs 1 lakh for the construction
of Sanskrit Bhavan. He was also a dramatist.
Warning against
private tuition:
P R Maheshwaramurthy, regional joint director for
collegiate education, has clearly stated that the
Government has banned private tuition for Govt and aided
college lecturers. He warned teachers of colleges in
Hassan, Mandya, Mysore and Chamarajanagar, coming under
the Mysore regional office, of serious action if they were
found taking private tuitions.
PU students
felicitated:
The Samskritika Sangha felicitated the II PU students who
have scored good marks. The felicitation was held at
Kannada Sahithyabhavan at 2.30 p. m. on June 15.
St Josephs shows good
result:
The St Josephs convent has achieved very good results in
the SSLC examination this year. Of the 237 students who
appeared for the examination, 229 have passed, says a note
from the headmaster of the institution.
Santvana for crime
victims:
Police officers should make Santvana for victims of
dacoit, theft and other crimes, suggested V V Bhaskar, DGP.
He was inaugurating Santvana programme for the victims of
crime in the city. Bhaskar also suggested the general
public to seek legal aid from the police officers if they
did not get aid from elsewhere. M K Sreevatsava.

30 injured in
accident:
30 persons were injured when a tempo carrying a marriage
party turned turtle near Jakkenahalli. The temp was going
from Channarayapatna to Periayapatna. The driver lost
control of the vehicle near Jakkenahalli and it fell into
a ditch. All the injured have been admitted to hospital at
Holenarasipura where they are recovering. Holenarasipura
police has registered a case.
GP chief's husband
beaten up by police:
The irate people of Arehalli in Belur demonstrated in
front of the police station there to protest against the
ill treatment of the gram panchayat president's husband by
the police. Shankarappa, husband of GP president
Yeshodhamma, had gone to the police station when he heard
that his friend Prakash was taken to the police station,
it's learnt. The police allegedly beat up Shankarappa
mercilessly. Arsikere DySp Mahantesh rushed to the spot
and assured the people that he would initiate action
against the policemen who had assaulted Shankarappa and
persuaded the crowd to disperse.
