Tractor showroom
inaugurated:
India has achieved top position in manufacturing tractors
in the world, claimed H P Mohan, president, District
Central Co-operative Bank here. Presiding over the
inauguration of the Eicher tractor showroom at
Tanneerhalla Extension on Monday he said there was a time
when tractors used to be imported from America and other
countries. But now things have changed and we manufacture
about five lakh tractors annually, he said. The State and
Union Governments should think of reducing the rate of
interest for purchasing tractors to help farmers, he said.
S K Nagaraj, President, Karnataka Contractors Co-operative
Bank, Bangalore inaugurated the showroom. G S Yoganand,
Deputy General Manager, Eicher Tractors, Channaveerappa,
Municipal President and journalist R P Venkateshamurthy
spoke. B A Kumar welcomed the gathering and Vishwanath
proposed a vote of thanks.
People told not
to chew tobacco:
District Health Officer Dr D S Jayadev has called upon the
public to create awareness among the people about the
dangers of chewing tobacco. Inaugurating World No Tobacco
Day programme arranged by the field publicity and other
departments at Netaji Industrial Training Center here, he
said smoking and chewing tobacco were harmful to health
and people should try to come out of such habits. K R
Susheela Gowda, managing trustee of the Netaji Institution
presided over the function. Over 40 lakh people die from
tobacco related diseases in the world every year and its
number in India exceeds 9 lakh, said N D Prasad, field
publicity officer Ahmed welcomed the gathering. Mahendra
Kumar proposed a vote of thanks.
Rank students
felicitated:
The professionally qualified persons who go abroad for
higher studies must return to India and render their
services sincerely here, said Dr H N Krishna, chairman,
Karnataka Public Service Commission. He was felicitating
rank students who topped in different classes from 7 to
PUC and other exams including IAS. Deputy commissioner B P
Kaniram inaugurated the programme. ZP CEO R Narayanaswamy,
H O Mohan, President, district cooperative bank and others
spoke. B R Vasudev, ZP president, presided over the
function. Praveen, the only candidate who has passed IAS,
and others including Pallavi, Sneha Pallavi and Nischay
thanked the organizers for the felicitations. Over 135
students were felicitated. Manjappagowda welcomed the
gathering. Puttiah proposed a vote of thanks.
TCH candidates
take out demo:
The TCH candidates took out a demonstration here on Monday
in protest against the delay in appointing them as
teachers by the Government. They took out the procession
on the main roads from Maharaja Park and submitted a
memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner.
Arasikere gets
Rs 24.59 lakh:
The State Government has released Rs 24.59 lakh for
Arsikere taluk under the Sarva Shikshana Abhiyana, said A
M Kantharaj, Block Education Officer at Arasikere. He said
the government intends to provide better facilities in
government schools. The first installment of funds has
been released to provide necessary facilities to students,
he said. The taluk has six educational centers. Work on
toilet construction, Scholl building repairs, providing
drinking water and other facilities have been taken up, he
said.
"Udyanadalli
Udayaraga" programme:
The Kannada and Culture Department has started a unique
programme "Udyanadalli Udayaraga" here at
Maharaja Park. District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President
H B Madana Gowda inaugurated the programme. Channaveerappa,
Municipal President, presided over the function. K Ramanna
welcomed the gathering and Kumar proposed a vote of
thanks.
Bangalore youth
killed in mishap:
One youth was killed and four others were injured in a
road mishap near Hiresave on Friday night. Police said the
youths belonged to Bidadi in Bangalore. The mishap
occurred when the Maruti car in which they were traveling
collided against a lorry, which was carrying bore well at
Rajapura gate on NH-48. The deceased has been identified
as Shashikumar (28). Those injured are Suresh, Cheluva,
Suresh and car driver Teja.
