Srikantiah
rarely visits district:
People of Arkalgud taluk have criticised the negligent
attitude of Revenue Misnister H C Srikantiah, who is also
in-charge of the district. They said the minister had not
visited their taluk for two and a half years. Senior
politicians also flayed the minister for not visiting the
taluk after coming to power.
Government
urged to drop SAS:
K Nagarahole Durgappa Setty, former president of the town
municipal council, Arsikere, and senior BJP leader, has
urged the Government to drop the self-assessment scheme
since it had many lacunaes. He said the common man had no
clear information on the new system and if they have to
file their statements every year according to the new
system it would be difficult. The valuation of assets
fixed by the sub-registrars was not correct and at many
four times more than the actual market value of the
assets, he said.
Plea
to strengthen Seva Dal:
Since the Congress Seva Dal organisation was weak in
Hassan district, it should be rejuvenated, State chief
organiser B Lakke Gowda said. Speaking at the district
meet he said the Congress would become strong if the Seva
Dal wing stabilises. George Wilson, district chief
organiser and Palya Srikantiah spoke.
RTO
earns Rs 7.86 crore:
The Regional Transport Office here has earned Rs 7.86 core
as revenue last year, Mysore Deputy Commissioner R V
D'Souza said. Speaking to mediapersons he said the target
was Rs 8.50 crore for 2001-02 but by collection Rs 7.86
crore, the region has earned 97.45 percent of its target,
he said. SP M A Saleem said year, 74 persons have died in
accidents.
Rules
apart, engineer serves lunch on plastic sheets:
The Deputy Commissioner of Hassan had done a commendable
work by banning the use of plastic bags and plastic
sheets, particularly in kalyanamantapas from this month.
Almost all shopkeepers and traders agreed to abide by this
new rule. The Deputy Commissioner had said that a fine of
Rs 1,000 would be levied on those who use plastics.
Fearing this, owners of kalyanamantapas have banned
plastic sheets.
Possession
of Ashraya houses:
City municipal commissioner B A Paramesh has instructed
those who have already paid Rs. 5,000 and got the sanction
orders for the Ashraya houses at Krishnanagar in Tattekere
village to take the possession of the houses personally on
May 22 at 9 am. If any beneficiary remains absent on the
above-specified date, then the houses allotment will be
cancelled and the deposited amount will be forfeited to
the municipality, he said.
Funds
to solve water problem:
Hassan DC B P Kaniram has released Rs. 1 lakh to Arkalgud
town and Rs. 85,000 to Belur town for solving drinking
water problems, Sakleshpur sub-divisional officer Subhod
Yadhav said. He said the amount would be utilised for the
repairs of borewells in the town limits. The State
Government will sanction Rs. 5 lakh to provide drinking
water to Hanbal and other villages of the hobli, Revenue
minister H C Srikantiah said. He was performing bhoomi
pooja for the construction of Ambedkar Bhavan, guddali
pooja for the new bus stand and laid fundation stone for
natural water flow and drinking water supply scheme. He
instructed officers to identify water supply schme. He
instructed officers to identify water resources and supply
drinking water to all the villages wherever there is
scarcity. MLA B B Shivappa presided over the function. He
said he would release Rs. 5 lakh from MLA grants in
addition to the Government funds to solve drinking water
problem.
Foundation
laid for school building:
Annechakanahalli Doddegowda, MLA representing
Holenarasipura called on villagers to live together in
harmony. He said this while laying the foundation stone
for a school building and other development works at
Malappanahalli in Holenarasipura taluk. The works will be
funded with amount from the MLA's grant. Laxmikantha,
Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer, who spoke on the
occasion, said the State had sanctioned the construction
of two additional rooms for the school. Kemparajegowda,
Taluk Education officer, said the MLA was taking a keen
interest in providing additional school rooms in the
interest of children in rural areas. B Chandrashekeriah,
Assistant Executive Engineer, promised to implement the
sanctioned works within a short time. Head master R
Rangaswamy welcomed the gathering after an invocation by
Ratnamma. Thyagaraju proposed a vote of thanks.
Public
asked to file PILs:
The public and taxpayers can file writ petitions against
the self-assessment system sice it is against the existing
law, said R Nagaraj, senior advocate and president of the
Public Interest Association, Mysore. Speaking at the
Consumers Forum here he said the new system was against
all the norms prescribed. H A Ramaswamy, working president
of the District Consumer Forum requested taxpayer to file
public interest litigations before the High Court.
Gang
loots house, steals utensils:
One Raghavagowda, a resident of Heggaddhe village in
sakleshpur taluk, has claimed the M K Rame Gowda and his
gang had demolished his house while he had gone out on
some errands. The gang stole all the utensils in the
house, he the Assistant Commissioner of Police, sakleshpur,
and no action was taken, he said. M P Krishnegowda, Gram
Panchayat member, Devaladakere, H V Nagesh and Kadappa,
DSS convenor, have condemned the goondaism and demanded
proper action against the culprits involved.
