Action against
Tahsildar:
Members of K.R.R.S., Arasikere unit, staged an agitation
in front of the Tahsildar's office and demanded action
against him for misappropriation of more than Rupees 1.25
lakhs collected through computerized RTC dealings. The
Government should suspend the Tahsildar within 15 days or
we will disrupt the function of administration, announced
Kodihalli Chandrashekhar, General Secretary, State Unit of
KRRS.
Violation of poll
norms alleged:
Jaware Gowda, former secretary of district government
employees' association and several others have alleged
that the president of the association is violating the
election norms and not following the guidelines.
Grama Panchayath
elections postponed:
The State Government has postponed the Grama Panchayath
President's and Vice President's election for three months
in view of prevailing drought conditions and the
kidnapping of former minister Nagappa, said D.B.Chandre
Gowda, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister.
Rental dues of shop
owners:
S.H.Puttaranganatha, MLA from Belur, has directed the Town
Panchayath Officials to lock the shops of those who have
not paid their rental dues for the past few years.
Speaking at the monthly meeting of the Town Panchayath, he
criticized the concerned officials for not being able to
collect the rent.
Demand for transfer of
SWO:
Eresh Hirehalli, district convenor of Karnataka Dalit
Sangharsha Samithi, has demanded the immediate transfer of
Shivalinge Gowda by not providing hostel facilities even
after college opened three months ago. After the Dharna
conducted in front of the Deputy Commissioner's Office,
the authorities concerned had assured to provide
facilities and accordingly instructed Shivalinge Gowda.
Those who have got entry to hostels are not happy with the
standard of food and facilities, he said. The DSS has
decided to launch an agitation if the authorities did not
transfer him, he warned.
Residents lock up
KPTCL office:
The Residents of Ullavalli village in Channarayapatna
taluk laid siege to the KPTCL office and locked the doors
to protest against its negligent attitude. They also
demanded the transfer of the official who had not supplied
power for the last eight days. They attempted to manhandle
the officer, who was rescued by the Sub-Inspector. Mescom
section officer Narasimhiah rushed to the spot and assured
the villagers to restore power supply in a day.
Students boycott
classes:
The students of Kallahalli Government High School staged a
demonstration against the shortage of teaching staff. They
boycotted classes. BEO Shive Gowda rushed to the spot and
assured them of initiating proper measures shortly to fill
the vacancies.
Crop failure due to
dry spell:
Due to failure of rain in the second fortnight of August,
crops like ragi, jowar, maize, til, sunflower, horsegram
etc. have dried up in the district, according to the Ryots
and reports from the agriculture officer. The District
expected 916 mm of rain by the end of August but it
received only 477 mm, which was also not evenly
distributed. The early rains encouraged the ryots to take
up sowing. But now they have lost the crop and their loans
have increased with the interest adding up, they stated.
