TP chief's charge
against Cong leader:
Sakleshpur TP president Shivappa has alleged the taluk
Congress president K B Chandru had illegally confined him
at the latter's house last week. Chandru wanted him to
withdraw the police case against former TP president
Kushalakumari and sign "compromise papers," he
claimed. "On Sept 11, Chandru took me to his house at
about 9 in the morning and kept me under lock and key till
3 pm for obtaining my signature on the compromise
papers," he alleged. Kushalakumari had abused him
earlier mentioning his caste in public and he lodged a
police complaint against her, Shivappa added. ZP member
Sannaswamy and ex-MLA B R Gurudev, at a meeting, decided
to advise Kushalakumari who had committed a mistake. But
Chandru ignored the decision and got his signature
forcibly Shivappa charged.
What about your
origin, Motamma asks Jaya:
A big rally organized by the district Congress committee
here on Friday ridiculed the observations made by Tamil
Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha on the foreign origins of
Congress president Sonia Gandhi. Jayalalitha was born and
brought up in Karnataka. What would she say if people of
Tamil Nadu questioned her on this count, wondered Women
and Child Welfare Minister Motamma. Motamma said she had
never seen such a big rally arranged by women (led by DCC
president V G Lalithamma). She said Sonia Gandhi under
stood the cultural heritage of this nation and was
committed to realise the dreams of her husband and
mother-in-law.
Special action force
for malaria eradication:
A special action force will be constituted for initiating
effective programmes for the eradication of malaria in the
district, announced L K Atheeq, Deputy Commissioner and
chairman of the district-level Vichakshanapade. Speaking
at a meeting pertaining to the prevention of epidemics in
the district, he said all the tahashildars, Taluk
Panchayat executive officers, health officers, assistant
directors of fisheries, AEEs of all taluk panchayats and
minor irrigation department officers will be included in
the special action force.
Arkalgud bandh total:
The Arkalgud bandh organized by several voluntary
organizations against the release of Cauvery water to
Tamil Nadu and delay in freeing former minister H Nagappa
was total. The demonstrators stage a Rasta roko at A N K
Circle. A Manju MLA, K Satish, taluk JD general secretary,
Ramesh Vatal, K T Ravindra, Ravi Kumar and others
addressed the gathering. After taking out a mammoth
procession through the main streets of town, the
demonstrators submitted a memorandum to tahsildar
Jagannatha Rao.
ZP president
clarifies:
If the elected representatives did not control the
government officials, they will become dictators with no
regard for rules and regulations, said B R Vasudev, Zilla
Panchayat president. Reacting to the protest by the Zillah
panchayat engineer and other officials against him, Vasu
said that he had gone to the office of the executive
engineer only to prevent any untoward incident by the
irate contractors, as someone had told him that the
contractors were there and the situation could have turned
violent, he said and added that he asked the executive
engineer to come to his chambers for discussion. The
executive engineer and his subordinate engineers also came
to my office and had discussions about the mode of
payment, he said. The executive engineer agreed to pay
according to the seniority of the contractors and the
matter was solved, he said.
Ozone Day observed:
Sir M Vishweshwariah Day and Ozone Day were observed
recently at Siddeshwara Industrial Training Centre here
recently. Satish Kulkarni INSAT Engineer, C R Jayaram,
lecturer and others spoke on the occasion. Principal A M
Chandrasheker presided over the function.
Genuine beneficiaries
yet to get Ashraya houses, JD (S) plans agitation:
Former Minister and JD (S) leader HD Revanna has
threatened to launch an agitation at the Deputy
Commissioner's office, if the State government did not
complete Ashraya houses and distribute them to genuine
beneficiaries within a month. Speaking to media persons at
Holenarasipura, he said the new scheme under which 1,800
ashraya houses would be constructed at Holenarasipura to
provide shelter for the homeless was initiated by the JD
government in 1977.
Release of water
"unscientific":
The verdict of the Supreme Court and Cauvery River
Authority about releasing water from Karnataka to Tamil
Nadu is unscientific, said D Gopal, district convenor,
Guruprasad, State-organizing convenor of Dalit Sangharsha
Samiti. The State Government has created a crisis among
the people who are in a critical situation due to the
failure of the monsoon this year, they said. The DSS has
decided to extend its support to the agitation to protect
the interests of our State, they declared.
Plea to shift bus
stand:
The residents of Sakleshpur and surrounding areas have
demanded a bus stop near the old bus stand in Sakleshpur
town since the present new bus stand is one and a half km
away from the national highway. If the authorities did not
take any decision in this regard immediately the people of
26-gram panchayats would launch an agitation, cautioned U
P Basavaraj, president of Udevara gram panchayat. Student
leader Janekere Shambhu said the old bus stand was
convenient to the students as all educational institutions
were in the vicinity. At present most of the rural people
prefer to travel in maxi cabs and vans since the
government buses do not stop at the old bus stand.
Shivaram, former BJP taluk president and Dayananda have
appealed to local MLA B. B. Shivapa to convene a meeting
of the officials concerned to take a decision.
23 candidates lose
deposits:
Twenty-three candidates who had contested for the board of
directors of the district Government Employees'
Association from the education department have lost their
deposits in the elections held on Thursday. Accountant
Subbe Gowda won from the information department.
Agriculture R Channakeshava, Fisheries Papiah, Forest
Chandrasheker, ZP Dyave Gowda, Horticulture Basavaraj,
Industries and Commerce N. G. Nagaraj and G. G.
Rajashekhar, Police Venkatappa, Collegiate Education
Sathyamurthy, Sericulture R. C. Gundanna, Govt Hospital M.
K. Shashishankar, Rame Gowda, Judicial Ramachandra Kumar
and Satish, Revenue Nagaraju, Gangadhar and Raje Gowda,
won the elections.
