Most of us are very proud of the fact that Bangalore is very close to becoming one of the super-hubs of Tech-world. While Our CM pats his back (and rest of the ministers, leaders, leaders of opposition etc) for it and we all applaud.. forgetting the reality that Bangalore is just one small part of our state. Having more than 1000 hi-tech companies is amazing for sure, but where is the infrastructure ? Why are we neglecting transportation problems ?  Who will take care of common people.. who will stop the murders, robberies and other crimes that happen almost every hour!! Will Karnataka prosper simply because 5% of us can operate computers ?

Does anyone know what's happening world outside IT and Technology ? Well.. here is a small attempt.. This is driven by our visitors from all parts of Karnataka.. You can Click here to send your thoughts or problems of your city or town!

I was discussing this issue in one of the egroup. I read the editorial in nov10th deccan herald titled "Wages of hypocrisy" somewhat relating to this article. The statement is quoted from deccan as is: "That what the sub-inspector did with a dose of idealistic exuberance is totally contrary to the Gandhian tenet that means are as important as the ends cannot be glossed over" I cannot agree more with editorial views.

Sir, Clearly Mr.Krishna himself has agreed that he's powerless in terms of taking action against the corrupt that lokayukta finds. What he can do is to initiate an inquiry and suspend the
concerned official for that time. He has no right fire the corrupt official. and Lokayukta in that respect is really toothless. Because what ever they do to catch a corrupt would go useless and corrupt still escapes.

What happened to one Mr.Hegde of mysore university or a corrupt SI near Kengeri gate police station after being caught by lokayukta is a matter to known to all. When lokayukta itself is rendered powerless by the hardcoded laws, what power an ordinary SI(Mr Girish, in question) has is anyones guess. It may not be right on his part to take laws into his own hands and he himself is not a system to punish anyone the way he want.

Even though his intention was only to create *scare* in the minds of the corrupt without causing any harm, the way he choose to do it is wrong. Energized young SI like himself needs a right direction to concentrate their energy on. He definitely needs an exhaustive counseling to understand what's going on within him. I read in kannada websites that there are allegations of him being associated with outlawed group. We already have enough number of criminals ruling us, we dont need any more. More importantly, when he became SI, he probably knew that he's going to be under political pressure all the time. If he cannot handle the situation, probably he's not right for it. Reality in life cannot be equated to what we see on a70mm screen where the *hero police officer* is always right. Law should take its own course here.

I cannot believe that the senior most cop (of IPS cader) of maharastra was involved in stamp-paper scam. Clearly, *BEline Eddu hola Meyuttide*. On one hand we have powerless SI who wants to get rid of corruption from our system and on the other hand we have a powerful cop who is very much part of introducing corruption into the system. The mind sets of these two cops don't match here....or do they?
Dhanyavadagalu.

Smriti V Metikurke - "Gala Music Nite" a slap on Kannadiga's Face
The comments below are just my views on the experience I had & how things are happening in Bangalore. It might not be the case in every orchestra, but this is what happened on 18th of Oct @ 6PM when I attended a program "Gala Music Nite by Manjula Gururaj & party" organized by Lion's Club Aditya Nagar, with a great interest to listen to kannada melodies live. Subject : Harassment at Hyderabad
I would like to share my feelings with you regarding the harassment is being done at Immigration counter at Hyderabad. Today 14th October, my son Master B.S. Ramprasad, with valid visa and air ticket, was stopped at immigration telling that his visa is not valid. They asked for the bribe. He did not have money to pay due to this he was not allowed to board the plane and sent back. Here in Muscat we were waiting at the Airport to receive him due to problem in the phone my family could not intimate me and they were pleading with the concerned authorities but was in vain. Since my family in Raichur he has to board the plane from Hyderabad which is nearer and there is direct flight to Muscat. We have no other option.  Is there any one to take-up the matter with the concerned. If so I shall be grateful and in future other passengers may not get into such harassments.
Thanking you and with regards - vishwanath

Sameer Managoli: Kannada needs Help.. Now!!
If you go to the link http://www.loc.gov/acq/ovop/delhi/salrp/kannada.html .. and check the page.. Do you see the books there? You will be surprised that Kannada section hardly has books of 3 authors and less than 100 books. Is it not a shame for us that a winner of 7 jnanapeethas and several thousands of great books written is not represented at all ? There were/are great authors and their works are being disrespected? Sameer Managoli: Can this be a solution for Mr. Kannadiga!!
As I read opinions about kannada and its problems,  I don't see any solution. Everybody expresses their concern for Kannada and its a good indication. So what should be done next? What's the next step? If there is wind blowing in your direction use it to your advantage!! I assume that everybody is ready to do something for kannada and its welfare but are not finding that "Magical path" of success.. isn't it? Read On

Subject : Travel
Comments : I am a regular traveler from Karnataka and staying in Pune for the last 7 years.
I need to go to my native place frequently and travel by KSRTC buses. I have been traveling for the last 6-7 years and would like to suggest some needs that are essential for the passengers, especially those who are traveling long journey.

Please arrange for at least one Deluxe/Semi Luxury buses for the routes that are more than
200-300 Kms. It would reduce the number of local passengers and would increase the comfort
for long journey passengers. I want to bring to your notice that passengers are charged 1 Re. as accident relief fund if the distance is more that some kms. likewise it is logical to have deluxe/semi luxury buses if the distance is more.

Every time we contact the people in the KSRTC regarding Deluxe buses, we get the reply that
it would not work out to run Deluxe buses. But if there are 4 express buses running between the same route that are running 50% full, will it be any problem if we have atleast one deluxe bus ? I can see many passengers who are suffering with the same problem ( they can afford deluxe bus, but are traveling by the normal buses as they are not available ).

As we have to come back to our work after the journey, it would be very difficult to work on the first day as the journey is hectic. At the same time, we will be tired when we go home/native places and will lose a day.

Above mentioned are small but major problems that we face every time we travel by the KSRTC bus to our home town. Many people travel by private buses up to Sholapur and then take normal KSRTC buses to reduce the strain of journey. Please take the necessary actions and provide better facilities to the public.

Subject : Auto Fares injustice to lakhs of People - Can the RTO answer these questions?
To:
Sri. Ramanath Rai
 Hon'ble Transport Minister
 Cc:

1) Sri. Thimme Gowda,    I.A.S
Commissioner for Transport.

2)Joint Commissioner for Transport - Administration

Dear Sir,
Regarding the Auto Fare Hike, would you mind taking time off to answer the following queries?

There is an unjustified fare hike of the Autorickshaws plying in Bangalore. As a regular user of them, the most common complaint is that the Auto Drivers STILL do not have change to render to the passenger, thereby looting a few hundred rupees in the long run. And as far as the rates regarding the Old and New tariffs published by the RTO as on 28th Oct 2002, the lesser said, the better. I would like to ask the RTO officials thru' your esteemed columns as to how on earth could the old rate be, for example, Rs.31.90/- when the Auto meters are metered (read rigged) to jump in multiples of 20 paise..

Is the RTO trying to pour dust into the commuters eyes....is this all a farce that is being done to eyewash the entire process with a few public announcements in the Newspapers????

Also, when the New rate for Rs.40.70/- is Rs.49.25/-.. in this connection, will the  RTO also instruct the auto drivers to pay back the customer Re 0.75 when the passenger gives him Rs.50/-??? Obviously not. So , it turns out to be that the Passenger has to make do with a 0.75 ps loss for every auto that plies on the Bangalore roads. Taking into consideration that there are around 50,000 autos plying in Bangalore everyday, approximately. That, is a Huge amount ...can the RTO dare to answer these questions?????

With warm regards
Kalyani

Subject : reporting issues with JSS medical college hospital
Comments : Hi, Recently one of my relatives went to JSS medical college hospital in Mysore and got admitted for liver problems around 11 am. The treatment was started at 5pm and until then he was admitted into hospital and was left unattended. The next day early hours around 4.15 am he passed away owing much to the negligence of the doctors there. Got to know - that same day 7 deaths were reported from JSS medical college hospital.
This seems to be a very serious issue with JSS medical college hospital. At least as i know, my relative expired due to negligence of the doctors there which most probably nobody will be able to prove it legally. Still i seek help from OurKarnataka.Com which has been playing a major role in reporting issues like this in "thoo nimma" section.

Hope to get some light on is matter. please keep my name and mail-id as anonymous.
Thanks and regards,

Subject : My days in Bangalore
Comments : I had been to India this July 2002 thinking that I can meet my family and friends in Bangalore from US. I came to B'lore Airport .. took a Auto-Rickshaw from Airport to Vijaynagar. but the Auto-rickshaw man though I'm new to B'lore and took me where ever he wanted and took me around M J Road and few places.. and I really kept. At last he took me and dropped me at my friend's place and asked me to pay about 250 Rs. and the meter was showing 250Rs.

Since he cheated me I just gave him 60 Rs. and told him that 's all I can give. He started arguing !!! I told him that I would drive his Rikshaw to Airport, and  I reach Airport with meter crossing even 50 Rs I will pay him 1000 Rs.  and asked him How's that.

At the end .. He apologized for doing that .. I gave him 500 Rs. after taking a promise from him that he would never do this again! I have no idea wether he is still doing or not..
God bless Foreigners and outsiders who visit Bangalore!.

Hampi and Basic Human Responsibilities - a response from a sensible western traveler
These people are in a minority, but they are the ones of whom Prakash complains - arrogant, rich westerners who see each place as a "tourist spot" and who treat the people and culture of the countries they visit with disdain, believing they are somehow "superior" by virtue of the fact they live in the "developed world". Karnataka and Indian Railways..  GS Prasanna Kumar
Colossal wastage of available resources or is it sheer madness of the authorities concerned:
Every Bangalorean would remember the fact that till recently say three years back, people had forgotten that there existed a Railway line between Yeshavantpur & Baiyyappanahalli. Some had even encroached to the extent of bringing up commercial/residential establishments on the track; a tar road was made to run over the track covering it completely and shops and other temporary sheds were brought up by the road sides, so as to make it look like any other normal road. It is learnt that the Railway officials had to run from pillar to post to make sure that their track got its life; though they succeeded to temporarily remove the encroachments, it did not last for long enough time. Are women safe in our cities ? - D Hari Krishna
The series under the title “Are Women Safe in our Cities” in a private channel has really been shocking. As much knowledge human beings try to gain day by day, they seem to be neglecting that much of being civilized for the well being of the society. But the actual question to be asked is who is responsible; if we go deep, it may seem that everyone are equally responsible or on the contrary, nobody is actually responsible. There are several issues which are to be addressed after due deliberations by the persons concerned. Read On.

Comments : If you see Bombay, Chennai or Kolkata, all of them have an un-imaginable and people-friendly public transport. Not only are all parts of these cities well connected, but they run at all odd hours. Bangalore, the hi-tech city still does not have a rail network connecting its major parts. I would not say that Bangalore is the same cool, environmental-friendly place. There has been an alarming increase in the number of 2 and 4 wheelers on the roads. This has caused sound and air pollution, not to say an exorbitant increase in the number of road deaths in the last few years.

My aim of this article is to create an awareness of the need of an internal rail network in Bangalore. This will relieve the general public of the torture meted out to them by the autorickshaw drivers, make public transport super-convenient and reduce the road traffic & pollution scenario. If the government is in any mood of thinking of the good of Bangalore public, they must start to plan such an internal rail network at the earliest.

For no fault of mine, I had to face a team of rough citizens (shame) who nearly roughed me up on the road at Mekri circle flyover.

I was about to take a right turn at the green light, on the ramp, driving slowly, the signal turned yellow, I stopped the my two wheeler at the signal. I did not notice a Tata Sumo vehicle ( KA 05 P 1719), must have been driving very fast on a yellow to cross the light, did not manage to stop on time but stopped five feet away from my scooter. He had to break hard but started shouting at me for making him break hard. To add to the mis-fortune, yet another speeding two-wheeler rammed into his bumper.

The un-civilized fellows in the vehicle, to avoid their penalties, started shouting at me as if I was responsible for all this. It is expected that all vehicles, especially, the ones with such a high power, maintained a safe distance and did not speed up at crossings on yellow. I wonder when this country will have civilized drivers.
