In an unprecedented development, the Governor H.R. Bhardwaj has asked the Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa to prove majority again on Oct. 14, Thursday.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, the Governor instructed him to convene a special session of the Assembly at 11 am on Oct. 14.
It may be mentioned here that the BJP government led by B. S. Yeddyurappa won the confidence motion 106 - 0 only on 11th October, Monday amidst chaotic scenes.
The letter said that the Assembly was not conducted as per the procedure on Oct. 11 and the Speaker did not follow norms.
Addressing the media at Raj Bhavan, the Governor said that he wanted to provide one more opportunity to the government to prove majority democratically and constitutionally.
The Governor said that the State was undergoing a serious constitutional crisis after the trust vote which was improper.
"There were people in uniform inside the House and also some outsiders. There was a heavy crowd inside," he observed.
Bhardwaj said that after looking into the records of the proceedings submitted by the Speaker, he came to the conclusion that the trust vote was a farce.
Saying that voice vote does not mean “anything”, the Governor pointed out that the Speaker did not mention in his report how many members voted for the Chief Minister and how many against.
The Governor said that he was giving an opportunity to the Chief Minister to prove his majority “clearly”.
Bhardwaj clarified that he was in Karnataka to serve the people of Karnataka and not any individual or any political party.
"There is no politics as far as I am concerned," he added.
