It’s creating headlines since it released four weeks ago. It has an unusual actor in a lead role. It has a debutante playing his love interest. The director of the film was dubbed “Flop Director” by the industry people. But this team has created magic. The film MUNGAARU MALE is running to packed houses all over the state. People are flocking the theatres to watch this masterpiece. The master who created this Masterpiece YOGRAJ BHAT has arrived with a bang.Ganesh the hero of the film has made it to the big league. Mungaaru Male is a tale of a young man who falls in love with a woman at first sight. The saga of this young man Preetham is told in a fascinating way by the director. The Serene Locations, eloquent dialogues, slick camerawork by Krishna and brilliant acting by Ganesh, Sanjana Gandhi, Anantnag, and Padmaja Rao makes it a visual treat. There is one more character which you cannot ignore,”Devdas” the cute little rabbit which plays a Vital role in the film. Ganesh, who is a house hold name through his daily programme on television “Comedy Time”, has shown how versatile he is. He makes you laugh throughout the film with his effortless acting and dialogue delivery. His scenes with Anantnag are particularly hilarious. The comic timing of both the actors are so precise. In the end he makes you cry (I have seen many men crying in the theatre during the climax scene) and you cry because you think he deserves his lady love more than the other guy who marries her. You cry because of the emotional turmoil he goes through throughout the film. In the end you walk out of the theatre with a heavy heart. But after you come out you feel ecstatic as you see umpteen number of people rushing to buy tickets for the next show. For me Mungaaru Male is one of the best Kannada films made in recent times. It gives other young film makers and writers immense confidence. There are no cheap comedy scenes, which act as fillers in most of our films today. There are no villains who shout at the top of their voice. There are no songs shot in Switzerland and Malaysia (Karnataka is beautiful too. See this film if you don’t think so!) Hats off to Yograj Bhat, the director has done a commendable job. His earlier works Mani and Ranga SSLC demonstrated his penchant for technique. In Mungaaru Male he has donned the cap of a master story teller. The grip he has over his story makes sure that there is not even a single dull moment in the film. Each and every scene in the film gives you immense joy and pleasure. Keep up the good work Yograj, we need to start a revolution of Good cinema in Kannada. Ganesh who hails from a humble background cannot ask for a better launchpad. He has an electrifying screen presence, He is a complete entertainer. Sanjana Gandhi is impressive in her debut film. Ganesh and Sanjana have some wonderful scenes in the film. Cameraman Krishna must be a very happy man. His work is earning him a lot of accolades from the industry experts. The crane shots of the waterfall scene, the lake shore scene are the highlights of the film. Having worked in a number of senseless Kannada films, this must be his best work till now. The writer of the film Preetham must be very very talented. To write such a story and sell it to the producers is not an easy job. Preetham has shown the importance of a good story in a feature film (its very relevant for Kannada films, as most of our stories are plagiarized from Tamil and Telugu) Please don’t write stories with Rowdism Preetam. We are sick and tired of it. Mano Murthy the music director from California (Settle down in Bangalore, Kannada film industry needs you badly) has another feather in the cap. This talented musician has composed six songs which have become anthems for the youth in Karnataka. The background score blends with the scenes beautifully. Usually when you write about a film you hardly mention the editor. Films eventually are shaped up on the editing table. I just loved the editing in this film. Being an editor myself I know the difficulties an editor faces on a regular basis. In Mungaaru Male the editor Deepu S Kumar has made sure the pace of the film is smooth. The transitions and cuts are accurate and smooth. Editing in the climax scene is purely exceptional. This film has come at a time when there is no encouragement for original stories (most of our hit films today are remakes!) There is too much intervention by the actors and producers in the writing process. One of the superstars who charges in crores rejected to star in Mungaaru Male must have realized his mistake now. This film is a wake up call for Gandhinagar. Its a lesson to people who ignore good writers. Hopefully this will change soon. As the Mungaaru Male weaves its magic all over the state producers from Tamil and Telugu are queuing up to acquire the remake rights of the film. If you have not seen this film go see it now! If you have seen it see it once more! Harish Mattur Bangalore Click here if you would like to Contribute or send a feedback. Click here to go to the main page of Kannada Movies.
