It is said that the US President Barack Obama has been instrumental in saving B. S. Yeddyurappa’s government from toppling over.

What has Obama got to do with Karnataka’s politics, one may ask. But it is a fact that in view of Obama’s India visit during the first week of November, the Congress - led UPA government does not want to antagonise the Opposition parties, lest they rake up law and order problems in the country that would become a blot on the nation in general and the Congress party in particular.

It is said that the Central Home Department’s report submitted to the Prime Minister in this regard has led to the State’s crisis to fizzle out rather quickly, much to the disappointment of the Congress and JD (S) leaders in the State. Governor Hans Raj Bhardwaj, in his report to the Centre, had recommended dissolution of the BJP - led State Government, placing the Assembly in suspended animation and impose President’s rule.

Based on this report, the Union Cabinet Sub - committee convened an emergency meeting and decided to take a suitable decision. However, following the Home Ministry’s report that dismissing the BJP - led government in Karnataka would lead to nation - wide protest from the Opposition, the Centre decided not to act in haste.

It is also said that senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj has requested AICC President Sonia Gandhi to give some time to the Yeddyurappa - led government.

Subsequently, the Centre directed Governor Bhardwaj to allow Yeddyurappa to prove his numerical strength in the Assembly once again.
