Spend a couple of minutes with producer Ajay Gowda, director Rathnaja and music director Hamsalekha, and you will be left wondering who the youngest of the lot really is. While the producer and director will soon be stepping into the Kannada film industry with their film Nenapirali, Hamsalekha is known for his volume of work spanning many years in this industry. He matches the young team in enthusiasm.

"I enjoy interacting with the technical crew. Unfortunately, this does not happen often, as most of the technicians are busy with production. I hardly ever get to meet the director, producer or cameraman during the production. The only way we communicate is via the phone. But if there is direct contact, each one of us gets so involved that we can't help but create something unique. And of course, the younger the team, the more energetic I get," says Hamsalekha.

Roped in for this debut venture is award winning cinematographer H. N. Ramachandra of "Dweepa" fame. While Rathnaja has been involved with the industry as assistant director for a couple of years now, "Nenapirali" will be his first directorial venture.

According to the director, Rathnaja (Prakash), "Nenapirali is a young film, which revolves around sensitive issues. We are aiming and turning the Kannada film industry into sought after career option".

Incidentally, the hunt for the star cast is still on. "We are currently looking for four fresh faces for the main roles of this film. We have been holding auditions, but the search is on. The female leads have to be confident, photogenic, glamorous and interested in their work. We are also looking for male leads who have a mature and urban outlook," says Rathnaja (Prakash).

Hamsalekha adds, "This is one director who seems to have every shot already pictured in mind. In fact, he has also got me to compose some of the songs in three parts. He wants the music to be very much a part of the film rather than just some source of necessary entertainment that's added on."

He is young and raring to go. He is passionate about cinema, his dreams will be unfolded through his production house "Kalpana Shakti". When i met Ajay Gowda the producer of the kannada film "Nenapirali", I was surprised. Having met many producers of the industry, I was used to hear the same old words from them. Unlike them Ajay seems to have a different approach to film making. As he spoke about his debut venture, he was brimming with confidence.

Here is an OKC interview with the producer Mr. Ajay Gowda.

OKC: Tell us about your debut venture.
Ajay: The film "Nenapirali" has an urban romantic story. We want to introduce a hero and a heroine through our film. We are in the process of selecting the lead pair. Once we finalise the cast, the film will be on the floors. We plan a 90 days schedule including out door shoots at some scenic locations of the coastal Karnataka.

OKC: Your director is also making his debut with your film.
Ajay: I know Rathnaja (Prakash) since my college days. We were classmates at National Institute of Engineering College, Mysore. We have been working towards our goals ever since we were in college. Rathnaja (Prakash) is a talented story writer and will prove to be one of the best directors the industry has been in the future. We both share a very good rapport. Rathnaja (Prakash) has worked in the industry for the past five years in the direction department. So working with him and his team will be a great experience.

OKC: Tell us about the music of the film.
Ajay: We have finished recording all the songs for the film. Music director Hamsalekha has penned the lyrics and given some excellent tunes. I am sure the music will be very popular. We plan to release the audio cassette very soon.

OKC: What is your take on the present trend of Kannada films?
Ajay: As a member of the film fraternity, i cannot be very much critical about the present trend of Kannada films. If we do not encourage Kannada film makers, who will? I am confident that with many trained professionals entering the industry, the quality of the films will be better both content wise and technically. We need to encourage professionalism in the industry. Due to it the industry will be much more organized.

OKC: Tell us about the crew of the film.
Ajay: H Ramachandra is the cinematographer. I have seen his work. He is magician behind the camera. He is one of the best cameramen we have. Kemparaj is the editor of the film. He too has done some excellent work. I believe in working with the best. So i am happy that i got such good technicians to work in the film.

OKC: What are your plans for your production house "Kalpana Shakti"?
Ajay: Right now our focus will be on "Nenapirali". After the film is released i will decide on the next project. The aim of "Kalpana Shakti" will be to produce good quality films. So with a very good team I am confident that I can deliver the goods.

OKC: All the best for all your ventures. Thanks for talking to OKC.
Ajay: Thank you.
