MUDA
to allot 3,000 sites in 3 months:
Newly nominated chief of Mysore Urban development
Authority, Sandesh Nagaraj, unveiled ambitious programmes
to fulfill the Congress election manifesto, which promised
house and sites on demand. Speaking to the press he said
MUDA would clear off the pending applications of 70,000
seeking residential sites in Mysore. Applicants who
already possess residential sites allotted by the
authority would be weeded out and "possibilities
would be explored to initiate action against them for
misleading MUDA", he added.
Bandh
called off, Santhepet row ends:
The Mysore bandh call given by the Santhepet merchants who
refused to shift from the main market in the heart of the
City was called off following talks with officials.
Officials had called for a meeting with the merchants'
representatives. C Krishnappa led the merchants'
representatives. It was decided at the meeting that the
merchants would be provided with all basic facilities. The
traders later said they would shift from the main market
in a phased manner in six month's time. Union Minister V
Shrinivas Prasad and H Vishwanath also held talks with
traders in this regard.
Unique
anthology of poems in Kannada released:
Seven poets have produced an anthology of Kannada poetry,
"Aneela Aradhana", a unique venture in poetry
writing in Kannada. The title was interestingly culled out
of the first letters of the poets names: Aravinda
Malagatti, Neelagiri Talawar, Latha Rajashekhar, Ariviyes
Sundaram, Ragow, Dharanidevi Malagatti and C Naganna. The
poets launched the book by themselves at a function
organized by poetry enthusiasts at the Kuvempu Institute
of Kannada studies.
Narasimharaja
by polls in June: Minister:
Transport Minister Sageer Ahmed said the by-polls to
Narasimharaja constituency will be held in the first week
of June. The by-polls are being held following the death
of Karnataka State Minorities Development Corporation
chairman and MLA Azeez Sait. He said he was deputed by
Chief Minister S M Krishna to gather the opinion of local
leaders and party men from Narasimharaja constituency.
Ambedkar's
birthday to be observed as Solidarity Day:
The State Dalit Sangharsh Samithi hopes to celebrate the
111th birthday anniversary of Ambedkar as 'Solidarity Day
of Weaker Sections'. They will hold a series of awareness
programmes all over the State. DSS State organizing
convener, Hariharananda Swamy, told media persons that
awareness programmes and camps will be conducted in all
the districts to organize people of the lesser privileged
sections.
Dalits
asked to fight for legitimate rights:
District in charge Minister H Vishwanath and other
political leaders from the City called for the adoption of
values preached by Babu Jagajeevanram at the 95th birth
anniversary celebrations held here on Friday. The
programme was organized by the district administration,
Zilla Panchayath, Corporation and the Mysore Urban
Development Authority.
Flesh
trade racket busted by Mumbai, Delhi police:
The Mumbai and Delhi police busted a flesh trade racket
and rescued 13 girls from Mandya, Mysore and many other
parts of the State. The rescued girls, who are in the
custody of Odanadi, a voluntary organization for women,
spoke on how the organized network operates in the State.
Speaking to media persons here, Stanley of Odanadi said
most of the victims were from Dalit and Lambadi
communities. The gullible were promised jobs and some were
"drugged before being sold to racketeers".
Artificial
insemination carried on chimp for first time:
The Mysore Zoo authorities and the Mediwave Fertility
Research Centre conducted the first ever artificial
insemination through "SIFT" on a Chimpanzee.
This procedure done on a chimpanzee is claimed to be done
for the first time in the world, C Sharath Kumar of
Mediwave, has said. Talking about the procedure, he said a
long canula was introduced into the fallopian tube with
the help of ultra-sound facility.
