Tehelka, a conspiracy to cover up the Bofors scandal:
Prasad
Union Minister V.Shrinivas Prasad termed the Tehelka expose
as a conspiracy to destabilize the NDA Government as investigations
on the Bofors scandal was reaching its logical end. He
was speaking to the press after releasing a book "Who
is responsible for India's defense lapses, the Nehru family
or Vajpayee?" authored by BJP MLC Mr. M.R.Tanga on Tuesday.

Double murder at bar: 12 get lifer: First Additional
District and Sessions Judge M.B.Sudeendra convicted 12
people to undergo life imprisonment on charges of murdering
two people at a bar on the outskirts of Mysore. According
to the prosecution Lokesh (24) and Rajegowda (35) were
killed when they visited a bar on July 16, 1997. All the
12 members pounced on them and hacked them with lethal
weapons.

Follow Mahaveer's "ahimsa marg": Ramdas Members of
the Jain community took out a procession and held various
programmes on Bhagavan Mahaveer's 2006 birth anniversary
celebration. Inaugurating the procession MLA Ramdas called
upon people to follow the teachings of Mahaveer to build
a peaceful society. He said people should follow the Mahaveer's
marg to diffuse tension in society.

Short-story competition: The National Institute of
Engineering will conduct a state-level, inter-collegiate
Kannada story-writing competition for undergraduate and
postgraduate students. Original stories should be sent
to the Editor of Mysore Engineer, NIE Mysore. Three cash
prizes will be awarded. The stories should be sent on
or before May 2.

Youth dragged for 4 km by car, dies: A mob set a car
afire following a mishap in which a pedestrian was dragged
to death by the car. According to the police, Prakash
(25) was dragged along the road for 4 km in the city after
his pant got caught accidentally in the bumper of the
car. The public tried to stop the vehicle by pelting stones
but the driver of the car got panicky and sped away dragging
the youth along.

KSOU V-C nominated to Inflibnet governing body: Vice-Chancellor
of the Karnataka State Open University N.S.Ramegowda has
been nominated by the UGC Chairman as member of the governing
board of "Inflibnet" (Information and Library Networking
Center). The inflibnet governing board guides activities
connected with linking information and library networking
in collaboration with the Universities Grants Commission
and other similar institutions to share library facilities
and resources.

Natarajotsava 2001: A superb dance recital: Bharathanatya
and Kathak dances were arranged at Jaganmohan Palace Auditorium
under the auspices of Vasundhara Performing Arts Center.
Sandeep Mallik's kathak was a blend of lively expressions
and attractive movements. Refinement and innovation within
the framework of tradition rendered the Bharathanatya
by P. Praveen Kumar, Shama Sanjay and Victor George a
commendable feat.
