Bajaj Auto Ltd asked to pay compensation:
The Consumer's Dispute Redressal Forum ordered Bajaj Auto
Ltd and Raja Sales and Service to pay a compensation of
Rs. 10000 apart from paying the full amount of a scooter
brought by Sheik Ameer Basha. Sheik who bought the vehicle
requested Bajaj Auto Ltd and the dealer Raja Sales and
Service to replace the vehicle, which was defective. He
lodged a complaint with the Consumer's Dispute Redressal
Forum when Raja Sales and Service and Bajaj Auto Ltd turned
down his request.

Rotary to set up home for the destitute: Rotary Mysore
has joined hands with Yogavidanandaji Swamiji to start
Sharada-Niketan Rotary Mysore home for destitute children.
The Deepa Housing Building Co-Operative Society has donated
land in Roopanagar Layout near Bhogadi. The Society will
provide free education to all children at the Home, which
will start functioning from June 2001.

Traders demand against unauthorized vendors: Traders
of Devaraja Market in the city observed a bandh demanding
a ban on unauthorized shops and eviction of vegetable
vendors from footpaths. The traders claimed that the rise
in number of unauthorized shops in Akki Chowk and the
South Gate of Mysore Palace had affected their business.

Rare Basavanna statute found: The sculpture of reformer
saint Basavanna, dating back to the 17th century, has
been discovered with Kannada inscriptions near Bettadapura.
According to researcher Nagraj Sharma, the image of standing
Basavanna with Kannada characters along with Nilalochana
and Chenabasavanna, the second wife and nephew of Basavanna
was found at Bettadapura. The sculpture is the first of
the family picture of Basavanna found in Karnataka.

PM should go: JD (S): JD (S) activists, led by former
Minister D.T.Jayakumar and City president Ananthu staged
a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office
demanding the resignation of Prime Minister A.B.Vajpayee
as a sequel to the defence scandal. They demanded that
the Government seek a fresh mandate from the people to
govern the country.

Leadership center in Mysore: Infosys: Infosys Technologies
announced its proposal to set up its leadership institute
at Mysore. The Institute will be the cornerstone of an
Infosys leadership system for Infoscions all over the
world. An array of training programmes, encompassing various
leadership development elements will be conducted through
out the year.

Open varsity to conduct interactive programme: Karnataka
State Open University, along with the Indira Gandhi National
Open University, would conduct an "Interactive Radio Counseling"
(IRC) for students of Karnataka State Open University
who are studying through distance mode.
8.
DSS protest against police atrocities: The activists
of Dalit Sangharsha Samithi staged a dharna in front of
the Superintendent of Police's office protesting against
the atrocities on dalits in the district. They also threatened
to intensify agitation if the Government failed to ensure
protection to Dalits and their property.
