City
BJP chief quits over corp. candidates' list:
H.S.Shankarlinge Gowda, MLA, announced his resignation
as the City BJP president in protest against the selection
of candidates to the ensuring City Corporation elections
to be held on May 3, without consulting him. BJP leader
and Central Silk Board chairman K.S.Eshwarappa had held
a meeting with City unit leaders and approved the list.
However Shankarlinge Gowda clarified that he would remain
in the BJP and work for the party.
Ex-Corporator
resigns from BJP:
BJP received another major setback with former BJP corporator
M.Sriram resigning primary membership of the party and
joining JD (S) headed by former PM H.D.Deve Gowda. He
told that he took this decision as BJP leaders denied
him a party ticket for re-election to Gokulam (ward no.36),
where he contested from in the previous elections.
Operating
Efficiency Shield for Mysore Railways:
Mysore Railways Division and Tiruchinapalli Railway Division
have been awarded with the "Operating Efficiency" for
efficient train operations during 2000-2001. This is the
second year in succession that Mysore Railways Division
has been considered for this award.
JD
(S) can go it alone in Mysore:
Former Minister: Janata Dal (S) can go it alone for the
City Corporation elections and the JD (U) faction should
not undermine the strength of the party, said former Minister
and party leader Krishna. Speaking to media persons, the
party observer said, "We are open for talks even in the
eleventh hour. We do not want Mysore City as a black mark,
where the alliance is wreaked".
Pourakarmikas
to stage dharna in Bangalore:
Mysore Nagara Palike Pourakarmikara Sangha staged a dharna
in front Mahatma Gandhi statue in Bangalore to urge the
State Government to implement long pending demands.
Free
choultry for marriage for poor:
Sri Shanthisagar Kalyan Mantap would offer the choultry
free of cost to organizations and associations for mass
marriages and other service programmes from June 1. The
choultry organizer said free accommodation at the choultry
would be extended till December. He said he would also
provide accommodation at free of cost if genuine poor
families come forward to hold a wedding or other programmes.
SC/ST
unemployed engineers threaten stir:
The SC/ST Unemployed Engineers' Association, condemning
the Government stand on filling up of backlog vacancies
in Government jobs, has threatened to stage an agitation.
Speaking to the press, K.S.Jayaram of the Association
said the six-month time sought by the Government to fill
up vacancies was "just an eye wash".
