Budget not SSI friendly: Hebbal
Industrialists Association stated that the State Government
budget was not in favour of the small-scale sector despite
the Chief Minister S.M.Krishna expressing concern over
SSIs. In a press release, general secretary of the association
Sueshkumar Jain stated that the Government that conceded
to certain demands did not do justice.

Industries to promote food processing sector: The
confederation of Indian Industries CII, Mysore zone, will
tie-up with the Government of Kerala to promote fresh
investment in the food-processing sector. Participating
in a meeting on "New opportunities in the food-processing
sector" in Mysore, Managing Director, KINFRA, G.C.Gopala
Pillai said a hi-tech food park has been set up at Kakkancherry.

Tax hike will hit business: The Mysore Chamber of
Commerce and Industry called the state budget disadvantageous
to entrepreneurs and the business community. According
to an official press release, the Chamber said trade and
industry is taxed to a greater extent by increasing the
rate of tax on commodities like coffee, tea, x-ray films
etc.

Forum stages dharna in front of police station: Activists
of Dalit Sangharsha Samithi staged a dharna in front of
the rural police station demanding the arrest of Guruswamy
in connection with the murder of Mahadevaiaha of Lakshmipuram.
The protestors stated that the police, who promised to
initiate action, had retracted their statement. They failed
to initiate action against the suspect, the DSS claimed.

Hebbal residents protest against private buses: Enraged
residents of Hebbal staged a roadblock agitation against
bad traffic management, which has been the cause of fatal
accidents of late. The residents sat in a dharna with
the body of a resident, who was killed in a mishap on
the same road. The protestors claimed that the plying
of private buses on the road caused increases in mishaps.
The protestors demanded a total ban on the plying of private
buses on K.R.S.Road.

Varsity tables annual outlay: The University of Mysore
tabled its annual outlay for 2000-2001 with a projected
deficit of around Rs. 10.29 crores tabling the budget
Syndicate member K.Mahadev said the implementation of
the revised salary structure to teaching, non-teaching
staff and pensioners has caused a shortfall in income.

Ganja worth Rs. 10 lakh seized- 7 arrested: Seven
people were arrested by Nanjangud police and cannabis
worth Rs. 10 lakh were recovered from them. The arrest
includes Samatha Party leader Mr. Abdul Razak and his
brothers. According to the police, Shahul and his brothers
were caught when trying to smuggle cannabis from Nanjangud
bus stand. All the seven have been remanded to judicial
custody.

Textile units to protest hike in entry tax: Mysore
Textile Merchants Association has unanimously resolved
to protest against the proposed hike in entry tax from
1% to 2% in Karnataka state budget for the year 2001-2002.
In a meeting held here, they felt that the proposed hike
would adversely affect the textile business and would
result in heavy losses in Government revenue.
