Milk coops threaten
protest rally against private milk dairies:
The Mysore and Chamarajanagar District Milk Producers'
Co-operative Societies Union has planned a protest rally
against the sale of milk by private milk dairies. Speaking
to media persons here on Sunday, Union President C N
Gurunallappa said the sale of milk by private dairies has
posed a threat to the Nandini milk in the market. He said
around 2 lakh people were engaged in dairying and were
associated with 668 cooperative Milk Societies in both the
districts. He said Nandini milk agents and shopkeepers
were promoting sale of milk supplied from private dairies
following payment of one rupee commission per litre
against 35 paise commission per litre of Nandini milk.
Govt asked to stop
flow of milk from other States:
Janata Dal (S) State president former Deputy Chief
Minister Siddaramaiah said his party would extend support
to milk producers stir of the Government fails to stop
flow of milk from neighbouring states. Addressing a rally
organized by the Mysore and Chamarajanagar Milk Producers
Cooperative Societies Union here on Monday, he said the
Government should immediately look into the plight of milk
producers in the State. He said the Government must act
immediately to protect the interests of milk producers
affected by dumping of dairy products from the
neighbouring states.
Include lessons on
life in curriculum- CBSE chief:
Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) chairman Ashok
Ganguly has said drastic changes were underway in the
education field to keep abreast with the developments in
the information sector. Laying the foundation stone for
the JSS Public School at SJCE Campus here on Monday, he
said the formative stage of schooling was very important.
Children should also be taught decision-making skills and
moral values so as to make their life meaningful.
"Institutions should create a congenial atmosphere
for children to live with respect and dignity," said.
He deplored the idea of parents forcing their children to
take up engineering. Medical or management studies which
lays a lot of stress on budding minds. He said the country
needs artistes and literary figures as well. He appealed
to the JSS management to start many more schools in the
other parts of the country, as there was a need for
quality education.
Sites allotted to
wealthy-Congman:
KPCC SC/ST Cell secretary Bhaskar has urged the Chief
Minister to cancel the allotment of residential sites
under the Chief Minister's discretionary quota. In an
appeal to the Chief Minister, Bhaskar said the
beneficiaries were those who already owned houses or sites
either in Bangalore or Mysore. He also threatened to take
legal recourse if the orders were not reversed. Those who
figure in the beneficiary list do not qualify for such
"consideration from the Chief Minster," he said.
Cong rebel gets
official candidate tag:
The Congress party in City Corporation gave in to the
demands of rebels in the party as a face saving measure by
accommodation M. C. Chikkanna as chairman of the finance
committee. The move resolved a month-long stalemate in the
City Corporation, which was forced to function without
standing committees. M C Chikkanna, who was seen as a
strong contender to the Mayoral post was sidestepped to
accommodate TB Chikkanna. MC Chikkanna, a three-time
member of the Corporation later proved to be a strong
contender to the prestigious Finance Committee chief's
post.
Two girls rescued from
flesh traders:
The rescue and rehabilitation team of Odanadi, along with
the City police, busted a prostitution racket by arresting
a couple involved in forcing young girls into the flesh
trade in and around Mysore. The team, led by Parashuram,
Stanley and Netra Raju, cornered the couple Choodamani and
Mariswamy by making one of the Odanadi staff pose as a
customer. According to Netra Raju of Odanadi, Choodamani
used to force young girls he had brought from Raichur and
Mandya districts to prostitution.
KEA plans yearlong
Dasara exhibition:
The Karnataka Exhibition Authority (KEA) has planned to
hold a yearlong Dasara exhibition at the Karnataka Dasara
Exhibition Grounds, said chairman of KEA Ragu. Speaking to
media persons here on Tuesday, he said. The decision in
this regard was taken at the KEA governing council meeting
and has sought the approval from the Government. He said
the Karnataka Exhibition Authority had organized an
exhibition in Bellary and plans to organize similar
exhibitions in other parts of the State. He said efforts
were made to ensure that all the stalls were occupied
before the inauguration of the Dasara exhibitions and a
letter has been written requesting the union Government to
include Mysore exhibition in the tourism list. He said
they have planned to open an entry through the MG Road and
extend parking slots to meet the demand from the public
visiting the exhibition Raghu said plastic bags would be
banned in the exhibition premises and big stalls will be
constructed in the entrance to accommodate all the
departments under one roof.
College education
paralyzed, students on rampage to get V-C out:
The stir launched by the Save-Varsity Students Forum
entered the third day on Wednesday with college students
boycotting classes and blocking roads at various points in
the City. The students were seeking the suspension of
Vice-Chancellor S. N Hegde and the Syndicate members. The
rally taken out by Banumiah college students blocked the
ooty-Mysore road paralyzing the traffic for more than an
hour. JSS College students extended their support by
blocking the Ooty road. Traffic was thrown out of gear
till Kadakola. Later, students from S. D. M. College and
Sharadavilas College boycotted classes and blocked the
Ballal Circle by holding a human chain.
ICC decides to release
water for standing crops:
The Irrigation Consultative Committee has decided to
release water from Krishnaraja Sagar reservoir for the
next 20 days to protect standing crops. The decision to
release water was taken at the crucial ICC meeting held at
the Irrigation Guest House in Krishnaraja Sagar here on
Wednesday. This would help save the sugarcane and paddy
crops in 85,000 acres in the Cauvery achcut area. Members
at the meet felt that the decision to release water for
kharif crop would be taken based on the reservoir water
level and inflow during September.
MUDA celebrates its
centenary with attractive housing scheme:
The Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) has invited
applications for Krishna Kuteera- Own your House scheme as
part of its centenary celebrations. MUDA chairman Sandesh
Nagaraj told media persons here on Wednesday that the MUDA
would construct 6,500 houses on stray sites in various
localities in the City. He said applicants would be
categorized under lower and middle-income and upper-income
groups. The MUDA would soon seek administrative clearance
from the Government to implement other novel housing
schemes for the benefit of the public.
