roko staged against pay-and-park:
Residents blocked Mysore-Hunsur Road in protest against
the Corporation's move to introduce pay-and-park system on
major city roads. The protestors demanded the immediate
withdrawal of the move, which is anti-people. The protest
was led by Madesh of Vontikoppal Residents' Forum, who
stated that the Corporation had turned its apathy in
maintaining basic amenities in the City, which shows the
concern towards the people.
Government
schools to be completed by May:
Zilla Panchayath President Nagaraj said the construction
of school buildings under District Primary Education
Programme would be completed before May. Announcing this
at the meeting here at the Zilla Panchayath Conference
Hall he admitted delay in completion of construction of
school buildings.
Six
slum-dwellers in City get new houses:
District in-charge Minister H Vishwanath handed over the
keys of the newly- built houses to the slum-dwellers of
Gandhinagar thereby launching the Amrutha Kuteeram
programme of Mata Amruthanandamayi. The Minister also
assured to allot land to Amruthanandamayi ashram for the
proposed hi-tech hospital in the city. He also said the
Government would extend help in implementing the welfare
programmes of the ashram. He also called on Mata
Amruthanandamayi to donate 5 % of funds as part of the
Rajiv Gandhi Water Mission to be implemented in the
district.
Private
school managements threaten not to admit students:
An association of the managements of aided and unaided
institutions of Mysore, Mandya, Hassan and Chamarajanagar
districts have decided to protest the policies made
against such institutions. The members charged that the
policies of the present Government on aided and unaided
institutions has threatened the very existence of such
institutions. They also threatened to refuse admissions to
students to all private schools and colleges if the
government fails to reverse its stand before May 31.

will not stoop to join Congress: Somashekar:
Malavalli legislator and JD (U) leader B Somashekar, who
may not campaign actively for the Kanakapura Lok Sabha
poll, has said that he will not defect to the Congress nor
will he oppose the candidature of H D Deve Gowda. He told
media persons at Suttur village in Nanjangud taluk that
rumours of him joining the Congress were doing the rounds
in political circles.
Gowda
visits temple, seer:
Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda sought blessings of
Suttur math seer Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamy on his
visit to the city. Gowda arrived at the City and offered
prayers to the local deity Sri Chamundeshwari at the hill
temple. Legislator H S Mahadeva Prasad termed the visit to
Suttur Math as having no importance in connection with the
Kanakapura Lok Sabha elections.
Clean
City drive leaves petty vendors on streets:
Around 125 Mysore City Corporation employees, headed by
Commissioner N Jayaram, launched a cleanliness drive. They
demolished and removed unauthorized petty shops on
footpaths on prominent roads in the City. Corporation
employees, who arrived in ten trucks, started demolishing
illegal structures and removed petty shops in the wee
hours. The owners of the petty shops said the Corporation
should have served an ultimatum before they removed their
shops. A few others said they were conducting business on
the footpath for the past 10-15 years and were also ready
to pay taxes to the Corporation.
