Ban
organization that attacked Church:
Fora The State Dalit Sangharsh Samithi (DSS), People's
Union for Civil Liberties and other organizations have
condemned the attack on the Holy Family Church in the
city. PUCL Secretary V Lakshminarayana, condemning the
attack, charged that the attack was engineered to create a
sense of fear among minorities. He said every Indian has
the right to propagate and practice the religion of his
wish and urged the Government to take action against the
culprits.
Shopkeepers
harassed by guides atop Chamundi Hills:
Normal life was affected and tourists were left in the
lurch as shopkeepers and hotel owners atop the Chamundi
Hills observed a bandh protesting "harassment"
from tourist guides. They alleged that tourist guides
ransacked the village panchayat office on February 12
alleging that the panchayat office was harassing tourists
and the public by collecting exorbitant entry fee on
vehicles.
BJP
Minister slams Parivar:
Kar Sevakks, who are determined to build a temple at
Ayodhya should work for the welfare of society instead,
Union Minister V Shrinivas Prasad has said. Speaking at a
function organized by the Kannada and Culture Department
in Mysore, Prasad criticized the Sangh Parivar's attempt
to build the Ram Temple at the disputed site. Prasad said
the construction of a temple would not help bring national
integrity.
Dalit
Christians misusing reservation facility:
BJP MLC BJP MLC G Madhusudhan has urged the Government to
take legal action against Dalit Christians who misuse the
reservation facilities extended to SC/STs. He said there
is a Constitutional provision to give 18% reservation for
the welfare of Dalits. But this was being misused by even
those Dalits who have converted to Christianity. He urged
CM to order a probe into reservations claimed by
Christians and to verify the caste certificates furnished
by them.
Corporation
passes resolution on revised property tax:
The City Corporation passed a resolution at a special
meeting seeking revision of property tax on vacant sites,
residential houses and commercial establishments. Members
arrived at a unanimous decision, after objections were
raised on the disparities and flaws that would arise if
the revised tax structure came into force from April 1. As
per the resolution, vacant residential sites and
residential structures would have to pay 0.3 % as property
tax.
VHP wants
Church attackers released:
The Vishwa Hindu Parishat and Bajrang Dal activists staged
a dharna at K R Circle demanding the withdrawal of cases
against those arrested on baseless charges. Activists
raised slogans against conversion and urged the police to
release all those who were arrested, within two days. They
said that seven of the 14 arrested were released on bail.
They demanded the release of all the others and withdrawal
of cases against them.
Dalits do
not need spokesmen:
Prasad Union Minister V Shrinivas Prasad said Dalits do
not need spokesmen when people championing their cause
have failed to check atrocities on Dalits and
untouchability. Referring to BJP MLC Madhusudhan's
allegations that Christians were misusing reservation
facility of Dalits Prasad said people who have failed to
protest atrocities on Dalits have overnight raised concern
over Dalits.
