Doctor's
negligence leads to death of tribal boy:
Tribals staged a dharna in front of a doctor's house to
protest his negligence in treating a tribal from B R Hills
which resulted in the death of Nanje Gowda (20). Nanje
Gowda of Chamarajanagar district, who sustained intestinal
injuries, was admitted to K R Hospital in the city. The
tribals demanded a detailed inquiry by the Government.
Military
training hostels in Mysore, Bijapur planned:
Director of the State Sainik Welfare and Resettlement
Department, retired colonel C M Uthaiah said the State
Government would open Military Training Hostel in Mysore
and Bijapur. Speaking after naming the Sainik Aramghar as
Sqn Ldr A B Devayya Bhavan, Uthaiah said Defence
Preparatory Institute would be started at Davanagere and
pre-recruitment training camps will be held at various
places and Sainik Guest Houses will be constructed at
Shimoga, Karwar, Bangalore and Chikkamagalur.
CFTRI
did not take up neera research:
The State Government, contrary to its claim, had not
entrusted CFTRI to study the possibility of preserving
neera in its non-alcoholic form. CFTRI Director Prakash
said the Institute had sent a report to the Government
declaring its willingness to undertake research on the
feasibility of preserving neera.
KSOU
to hold convocation:
The Second Annual Convocation of the Karnataka State Open
University will be held on February 27th in Mysore.
According to KSOU Registrar, V Ramanna, applications for
the degree certificates have already been dispatched to
all eligible candidates by post. Students, who have not
received application forms, may obtain it from the nearest
KSOU Study Centre or from the Office of the Registrar,
KSOU, Manasagangothri.
Former
MLA Pawar quits BJP citing harassment:
A former BJP MLA, who represented the Narasimharaja
constituency in Mysore, has quit the party alleging
harassment from the senior BJP leaders. Pawar said he
entered the Sangh Parivar through the Jana Sangh and
played a prominent role in strengthening the BJP in Mysore
City and the district for 25 years. BJP leaders, including
Union Minister Ananth Kumar, Yediurappa and Eshwarappa,
made him wait for long to allot him a party B form despite
him having a good track record during his stint as MLA
since 1994, he said.
Bandh
called in Coorg on February 14:
The Coorg National Council (CNC) has called for a bandh in
Coorg on February 14 if the Union Government fails to bail
out coffee planters who are reeling under a price crash.
Speaking to media persons, Secretary General of CNC, N
Nachappa demanded seasonal support price for 2001-02 at
Rs.2500 per bag of 50 kg of Arabica parchment and Rs.1500
for Arabica Cherry.
Trade
Unions' Forum launched in Mysore:
Employees of various industries belonging to trade unions
have formed a Trade Unions' Forum to fight for the working
class by organizing labourers in the unorganized sector in
the City. Speaking to media persons, former mayor Narayana
said the forum would protest against exploitation of
workers, violation of the Minimum Wages Act, rise in
corruption in the Assistant Labour Commissioner office and
police excesses on workers.
Congress
playing caste gimmick in Kanakapura: MLC:
JD (U) working president and MLC K B Shanappa condemned
the ruling Congress party for indulging in caste based
politics and for segregating communities among the society
to win the Kanakapura by-election. He said it is
unfortunate that the Government and its ministers are
dividing society on communities and castes to woo voters.
