Minister
harps on "curb-terrorism" agenda:
District in-charge Minister H.Vishwanath has called upon
people to back any decision taken by national leaders to
counter terrorism. Delivering the Republic Day speech
after hoisting the tri-color at Chamundi Vihar Stadium,
the Minister said terrorism has posed a serious threat to
the integrity of the nation. "Moral support should be
offered to the armed forces who are manning the national
borders", he said.
Ryots
to protest pay-and-park scheme of Mysore:
Zilla Raitha Hitharakshana Samithi president Mallesh has
threatened to launch an agitation if the Corporation fails
to withdraw the move to introduce the pay-and-park system
in the city. He urged the District-in-charge Minister
H.Vishwanath to withdraw the orders.
Information
centers in six districts:
Information Minister M.Shivanna said the Government would
set up information centers in six districts to help small
newspapers. Speaking at a function organized by the
Information Department, Shivanna said Mysore, Udupi,
Bidar, Gulbarga, Kolar and Tumkur have been identified for
setting up of the centers. Shivanna said SC/ST unemployed
youth would be provided job opportunities through these
centers.
Weekend
plays by Rangayana:
The Nataka Karnataka Rangayana, Mysore, has chalked out a
series of programmes for theatre enthusiasts. The Director
of Rangayana said the repertoire has planned to stage
weekend plays from January 26. He said Rangayana would
feature quality plays to theatre buffs of the city.
Bank
Employees' Union to discuss Government policies:
The State Bank of Mysore Employees' Union has urged the
Government to recover loans from white-collar defaulters
in the interest of the banks and development of the
nation. Speaking to media persons here at Mysore, Bank's
Union President V.Manjunath said the Bank Employees' Union
has presented a list of defaulters in the Parliament who
are due to pay to the tune of Rs.1 crore. He said the
Union Government has registered Rs.60000 crore losses
under non-performing assets and wanted the State to
recover a minimum of Rs.30000 crore from defaulters.
"Need
for uniform reservation policy":
There is need for a uniform reservation policy in all the
states for higher education, said Vice Chancellor of Rajiv
Gandhi University of Health Sciences, S.Chandrashekhar
Shetty. Speaking at the PG Students' Convention at the JSS
Dental College in Mysore, he said each state has its own
policy on reservation. He condemned the "dual
stand" of the governments which permits establishment
of colleges even while plugging the number of students
admitted by the concerned colleges.
Ex-servicemen
threaten stir:
Members of the Ex-servicemen Welfare Association have
threatened to stage a black-flag demonstration in Mysore
seeking restoration of the welfare measures extended to
them. Speaking to media persons, D Nagaraj of the
Association, said members would be forced to stage a
demonstration if "the district administration fails
to allot land as was earlier decided at Hunsur".
Students
angry over exam date:
Students of Maharaja and Yuvarajas College in the City
staged a road block in front of Crawford Hall protesting
over the date of the examination. They also protested
against the hefty examination charges, convocation charges
and fee for identity cards. The students withdrew their
agitation after Vice Chancellor S N Hegde promised to take
up the matter with the heads of the concerned colleges.
