Group
clash:
17 of a film unit injured:
Around 17 persons of a Tamil film production unit were
injured in a group clash near Srirangapattana. The employees
of the film production unit working on "Samudram", a movie
starring Murali, picked up a quarrel with a group of youths.
When they refused to evict the place, the employees of
film production unit assaulted youths, which led to group
clash. The vehicles and the cameras were damaged in the
group clash.
Cine-star
stages dharna at theatre:
Tension prevailed at Sangam theatre in the city, when
kannada cine- star and his fans staged a protest against
non-screening of his movie "Jipuna nanna ganda". The theatre
replaced Jaggesh's movie with Chithra produced by Ramoji
Rao, which sparked off the protest.
BJP
seeks Dal factions' help in power game:
Senior BJP leader and Central Silk Board Chairman K.S.Eshwarappa
called upon the JD factions and non-congress parties to
check Congress from capturing power in Municipalities
and Corporations. He said Congress leaders wanted to wrest
power majority of the municipalities with JD (S) support.
Referring to JD (S) Chief Siddaramaiaha's statement that
the party would block the BJP from gaining power, Eshwarappa
said the JD (S) and JD (U) leaders should give a free
hand to local leaders to decide alliance in the interest
of development of wards.
Board
appointments soon:
Allum: Nominations to various boards and corporations
would be taken up soon as all the hurdles have been removed,
said KPCC President Allum Veerabhadrappa. Speaking to
media persons at Mysore, he said, nominations were delayed
following the CM's visit to Delhi. The issue was dragged
to Court and the Court ruling in favour of the Government,
all hurdles have been removed.
Fee
hike: ABVP seeks roll- back:
The ABVP has urged Mysore University to immediately rollback
hike in fee for B.Ed course. ABVP Secretary S.Sharath
criticized the Mysore University's decision to increase
course fee from Rs. 250 to Rs. 600. He said the hike was
unscientific and has affected students from rural areas.
He also welcomed University's decision to introduce semester
system in PG Courses.

D. Narasimhaiah felicitated:
Noted critic and teacher C. D. Narasimhaiah was felicitated
in the city. Speaking on the occasion, journalist N. Ram
said, "Mr. Narasimhaiah has played a pioneer role to establish
Indian writing in English as a serious discipline".
