    1. Vikrant charged with bid to break union:Vikrant Tyres Employees' Union charged the JK Industries management with hatching a conspiracy to split the workers union. They asked the public to support the workers' cause. Union president G.Jayaram denied the charges that union leaders had not come to any conclusion on the settlement of wages. He also said that the wage demands were presented in December 99, but the management failed to look into them till December 2000.

    2. Rasta-Roko:Industrialists and the Members of the Mysore Chamber of Commerce and Industry staged a rasta-roko at K.R.Circle and other places to protest against the Government's decision to hike power tariff.

    3. Mirle murder: Accused acquitted: The III Additional District and Sessions Judge acquitted all the seven people charged with the murder of Mirle Krishne Gowda, a famous congress leader of K.R.Nagar. The congress leader was killed on November 15,1995 with two of his associates in a village at K.R.Nagar. According to the prosecution, seven persons, all Janata Dal workers, were booked on charges of murdering the three. The acquittal is a sequel to the failure of the prosecution in providing evidence against the accused. N.Dwarakanath popularly known as ND was the advocate for the accused. Krishne Gowda was a close associate of H.Vishwanath.

    4. Black bear dies: An adult female Himalayan Black Bear (25), died at the Chamarajendra Zoological Garden in Mysore, following a heart attack. According to the zoo authorities, the bear was found in good condition and had even consumed food on the previous day.

    5. Charity hospital to be built in Mysore: Mata Amrithanandamayi Devi Math would take up Amrithakripa Charitable Hospital, on 20 acres of land in Roopanagar. The Hospital would have 50 beds and would serve as a hi-tech hospital in Mysore. It would also have a mobile medical unit to cater to the needs of rural people. It would have a tie-up with AIMS, a super special hospital of Kochi. The Ashram further plans to construct 5000 free houses in Karnataka. In the I phase, 300 houses have been built in K.R.Nagar, Gokulam.

    6. Election Commission should be fearless-Seshan: Former Chief Election Commissioner T.N.Seshan wanted the commission to be fearless, referring to the large-scale violation of the code of conduct in Tamil nadu. Delivering a talk on electoral reforms in Mysore, Seshan took a dig at the incumbent commissioner who did not stop posters and publicity materials from being put up in every nook and cranny of the state. He said it was a positive sign that the average voting percentage in the Indian elections was 60% while "Americans were extremely happy to have recorded 50% in the previous presidential elections".

    7. Budget anti-poor, says Siddaramaiha: Former State Finance Minister Siddaramaiha termed the Union Budget pro-capitalist which spread red carpet to multinational companies. He said that the Union Government has neglected the farming sector, which contributes a major portion to GDP.

    8. "Make parents aware of children's education"-V.S.Ramadevi: Governor V.S.Ramadevi welcomed the move to incorporate education in fundamental rights and said there was a need to create awareness among parents to educate their children. After inaugurating the golden jubilee of Vidyavardhaka Education Institution she said the government should convince parents to send their children to schools and make use of facilities extended by the government.

    9. Vikrant workers take out rally: Hundreds of employees of Vikrant Tyres Limited with their families took out a massive rally demanding fulfillment of their long-pending demands. They raised slogans against the management and passed through K.R.Circle and Devaraj Urs Road disrupting traffic.
