Gujarat
Government should be dismissed, says Siddaramaiah:
Former Deputy CM and State JD (S) President Siddaramaiah
has urged the Telugu Desam, DMK and other NDA partners to
request the PM to dismiss the Gujarat Government. He said
the NDA allies, who still believe in secularism, should
demand the dismissal of the Narendra Modi headed
Government to save the nation from further crisis and to
ensure that innocents were protected during communal
riots.
Trouble
brewing at Rangayana:
Secretary of the Kannada and Culture Department C S Kedar
has said that the Government would consider converting
Kalamandir into a cultural corridor in the interest of the
public. He was speaking to media persons after holding
talks with Rangayana artists and the Rangayana Director
and members of the Ranga Samaj following the differences
between amateur artists and Rangayana authorities. He said
a few issues raised at the meeting could not be resolved
due to technical problems. However, the department would
be committed to resolving it, he added.
Religious
heads promise to keep Mysore calm:
Religious heads of Mysore have condemned the violence at
Godhra. They said that violence in the name of religion
was a crime against humanity. The leaders participated in
a meeting organized by the Mysore Agenda Task Force to
decide measures to be taken to maintain peace and harmony
in Mysore in the aftermath of the Gujarat violence. All
the leaders resolved to speak to their followers and to
abjure violence in the name of religion and advice them
not to make provocative statements.
Bharani's
work for Koravas lauded:
Former MLC and Dalit poet Siddalingiah said politicians
and administrators should have social commitment and
should serve the poor. Speaking at a function organized to
facilitate ADGP Subhash Bharani, he said politicians and
officers should develop a love towards literature and
culture. He lauded Subhash Bharani for his concern towards
rehabilitating the Korava community known for their
inhuman rituals practices. To stop the inhuman rituals
practiced by Koravas, Bharani organized seminars in the
Western Ghats and ensured the release of funds for
development of the neglected community.
Course in
linguistics in Mysore from April 30:
The Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL) in
association with the Academic Staff College of Mysore
University is conducting a refresher course in Applied
Linguistics from April 30. According to CIIL director Uday
Narayan Singh, the focus of the course is technology and
language.
Award for
book:
A book in Kannada on child health "Nimma Magu"
written and published by Dr U G Shenoy, National Executive
Board Member, Indian Academy of Pediatricians, Mysore
Branch has been selected for the Gorur Foundation Award
2001. The award will be presented to Dr. Shenoy in
Bangalore on April 14.
LPG price
hike affecting common man: MCCI
The Mysore Chamber of Commerce and Industry has stated
that the Union Government's decision to increase LPG and
fertilizer rates will reduce the purchasing power of the
common man and will have an adverse impact on economic
growth. Though the Union Government plans to expand the
service tax net on a host of the common man's
requirements, it would have no affect on trade and
industry directly. This would adversely affect growth.
