State
team to negotiate better deal:
A State Government team would hold talks with the Central
Government to redress the grievances of tobacco farmers of
the State, district incharge Minister H Vishwanath, has
said. Addressing an award presentation function for
tobacco farmers in Mysore on Sunday, the Minister assured
all help to tobacco farmers. Vishwanath said the policies
of the Tobacco Board and the Union Government was against
the interests of the tobacco farmers of the State.

As the filing of nomination papers to Narashimaraja
constituency begins from Monday, district in-charge
Minister H Vishwanath held closed door meetings with KPCC
office bearers at an undisclosed place. Sources said
Vishwanath held talks with ticket aspirant F M Khan,
Arshad, Tanveer Sait and a few others. He also held talks
with City Congress president D Made Gowda, KPCC office
bearers P Govind Raj, Susheela Keshva Murthy, Sandesh
Nagaraj and Corporators representing Narasimharaja
constituency.
Bandh
against power tariff hike partial:
Partial and peaceful bandh was observed in Mysore and
Chamarajanagara on Saturday to protest against the
proposed power tariff hike. The Statewide bandh was called
by BJP. The city as well as private bus services was
paralysed and autorickshaws did not ply on the roads till
3 pm. The busy Santhepet wore a deserted look and
commercial establishments on Devaraj Urs road, Chamaraja
double road, Shivarampet, New Sayaji Rao road and Irwin
road were closed. Partial bandh was observed in the
outskirts of the city. Petty shops and petrol bunks
remained open.
Gowda
asks JD factions to unite:
Former prime minister H D Devegowda launched the Janata
Parivar`s poll campaign for the ensuing Narasimharaja
Assembly byelection appealing to the partymen to unite.
Gowda stated that the party candidate would be announced
on Sunday before his departure to Belgaum for a party
concention and urged all the Parivar members to back the
party candidate.
Farmers
switch off motor at pump house:
Farmers of Mandya district staged a unique protest by
switching off the motors at the Belagola Pump House, which
supplies water to the residents of Mysore city. They were
protesting the decision to divert the water of Devaraya
canal, which is used for watering crops, to meet the
drinking water needs of Mysore City. Farmers, led by
Palahalli, village panchayatmember Govindaraju and others
threatened to lock up the pump house and stop water from
being suploed to the City if the irrigation department
officials failed to release adequate water from KRS to the
standing crops in Palahalli, Lakshmipura, Kalastavadi and
other near by villages.
Categorisation
of farmers flayed:
Zilla Hitharakshana Samiti president Mallesh has urged the
Government to immediately reject the Karnataka Electricity
Regulatory Commission approved power tariff by 16.2
percent on all categories of consumers. Speaking to
presspersons here. He said the KPTCL should stop
categorisation of farmers' basecd on HP of irrigation
pumpsets.
BJP
nominee files papers:
BJP candidate B P Manjunatha filed nominations for the
byelection from the Narashimaraja Assembly constituency to
to be held on May 31. Manjunatha, accompanied by State BJP
leaders B S Yadiyurappa, MLC Ramachandre Gowda, former MP
C H Vijaya Shanker, MLA A Ramadas was taken in a colourful
procession from Hanuman temple to the corporation office.
