    BJP assures better civic facilities in city:
    Union Minister Ananth Kumar, who launched a poll campaign at Mysore for the urban civic polls, called upon voters to reject the congress party. After taking out a padayatra supporting BJP and Samata party candidates, he said both the BJP and Samata party would develop Mysore as a model city in the state.

    May Day celebrations dampened by poll fever:
    May Day celebrations usually marked with rallies and meetings of trade union activists in Mysore passed off rallies by political parties seeking votes for the corporation elections.

    Violence, lathi-charge mars city corporation elections:
    Violence, lathi-charge and destruction of poll material marred the city corporation elections, which recorded a moderate turnout of around 65%. City police arrested 43 persons on charges of malpractice and repelling have been announced in four booths under ward 60 and ward 59.

    10 more BJP men may join Cong:
    Many BJP legislators would cross over to the Congress if technical hurdles were overcome, asserted party leader B.B.Shivappa, who recently joined the Congress. He said there were about ten members who were expected to defect. Shivappa disclosed that the BJP has decided against expelling members for anti-party activities. He was speaking to the media persons.

    Cong to seek Dal support:
    The Congress, short of a clear majority in corporation council, would in all probabilities seek the outside support of Janata Dal (S) to capture power. City Congress Chief D.Made Gowda said secular forces should keep communal parties out of power. Harshakumara Gowda, former MLA, said Congress backed the Janata Dal (S) in the previous term and it should be reciprocal in nature.

    Titan's defeat sends shock waves across parties:
    The defeat of a few prominent leaders and former corporators changing the equations in the council has sent shock signals in political circles. All the parties suffered a setback because of the rebels in the fray.

    3 held in post poll violence:
    The city police have arrested three persons in connection with the post poll violence in the city, while a former corporator is at large. It is stated that as retaliation to the violence, a group of miscreants set a van ablaze and assaulted few of Akhila Banu supporters.
